How long until UT football wins the SEC?

2011 would be the first year we have more than a puncher's chance... unless we patch up the QB and O-line situation next year. In that case we could be a darkhorse for 2010... but the safe bet is 3 years from now.

Not this year or next. Probably depends on how good Brantley is during his senior year. That'll be our next best chance at winning the East. We'll have to see if Les is able to get things rolling again or if Saban has a down year as to whether or not we can win the whole shebang.

I picked option four. I don't see it this year. Its hard to say next year, either, because you just don't know how all this is going to turn out.

I would think that, with Tebow leaving UF and the Gator defense decimated by graduation and early NFL defections, next year would be the best opportunity to finish at least ahead of them.

In the last few years we've had a couple of absolutely terrible recruiting classes. And last year due to the limited recruiting timeframe we weren't able to address some areas of need. In order to contend in 2010 this upcoming recruiting class must be phenonemal and able to contribute immediately.

I completely agree. But it does happen. Berry contriobuted immediately, didn't he? Tebow did at Florida, as well.

Look at it this way, for all the crap us rivals give you for the recent defections among some of the presumable first and second stringers, some of the underclassmen behind them will I would imagine have to grow up fast.

It will hurt for awhile. But look at what Flroida did when it lost that defense form the 2006 national championship team. The next year we had about seven or eight guys out there -- fast as crap and gifted -- but screwing up assignments, biting on every misread, etc.

Then the very next year, the defense was excellent, because of that experience in replacing such a good defense with youth.

:)The question itself is like putting the cart before the horse..... Lets get back to winning seasons and them talk about championships.

this will be an interesting year. We should be more competitive but I don't expect us to be in Atl. 2010 we should be contending but I fully expect 2011 for UT to be playing for titles. IMO, anything less is not holding this staff to the expectations they set and understood when they took the job.

Saw the question posted in a thread -- thought it deserved a poll.

My guess would be 2013 at the earliest to have a chance at winning SEC. Means winning East and unless something happens in Gainesville, be at least then before we can be competitve with the Gators to have cahnce to knock them off. We are going to have to beat them to win the East. Can't lose and depend on help any longer unless Meyer leaves and Foley screws up the hire.

After this year I am hoping UF football takes the same turn as UF basketball and falls almost completely off the face of the earth and ends up playing in the independence bowl for 5 years in a row...Probably won't happen but hey you got to dream baby

i think we have a legitmate shot next year if some of the 2010 freshman can make a big impact somehow.

i think we will get a big upset on either bama or florida this year, and florida can be beat esp with harvin gone. im not denying that tewbow is a good college QB but everyone keyed on harvin leaveing the rest of those guys wide open, we will see how well he does when no one is getting the respect that harvin was. demps is fast but straight line speed is about all hes got.
