How can we be a NC contender any time soon? We were not even bowl eligible this year. Let's focus on becoming a good football team first. No need to put the cart before the horse.

I feel like at any given time this program is realistically no more than 5 years away. Just gotta have the right pieces fall in place.

It's a process that is not only about the players and coaches, but also about the school, fans and schedule. The SEC is getting tougher. The school and fans have to get behind the program stronger, which has been hard with all that has happened. The schedule has to be more favorable by playing the tougher teams later in the season. Until all of those align along with improving the coaching staff and recruiting top end players; I cannot see it happening for at decade or better. Want it to happen now, but just think that is more realistic. We just went 5-7, lost ugly to Kentucky, and lost by 30+ points against the top SEC teams. That is a huge gap to bridge to even become competitive, much less NC material.

You guys are crazy. Next year! We're stacked! We have a wicked long range kicker, a bulldozer offensive line and a stable full of punishing backs.

Well, we at least have a punt returner who can catch a football.

National championship? Who knows, but I do think the best personnel have the least experience. The offensive line simply has to improve. Until that happens, we will have an erratic offense and a defense that gets gassed late in the games

I love how the negavols act like the only way to have a good season is to win a National Championship. I realize we've had some subpar seasons lately but considering we lost Hunter, our best player IMO.. Janzen Jackson, and Darren Myles Jr for the whole season and Bray for half.. It wasn't a complete failure. I know I know, we lost to Kentucky. We played terrible that game it happens. Ask michigan, they lost to App St... I wonder if the Negavols realize we've won 1 national championship since 1970. I guess thats Dooley's fault too.. he should have recruited Ron Jaworski.

I'm 43 and they have won one in my lifetime,In 98 I bought the nc T-shirt and hat put them in the closet and have never wore them thinking this may be the only ones I ever get. If they win another in my life time I will wear those 98 items.So I pray to the football gods to please let me wear them!!!! GO VOLS

And what happen to the Michigan coach after that year? Thats what happens when you under perform as bad as they did. Same as we did against KY

I would prefer to start with a winning record, then get competitive in the SEC East, then maybe think about a NC. Its pretty LOL to try and put a figure on how long it will be.

The only likely correct answer is "Somewhere between 4-5 years and never".

So many things have to happen to win a NC that are outside the control of anyone that predicting how long it will be is an exercise in futility and serves no purpose than to again see who has common sense and who doesnt on this forum lol.

I agree we shouldn't have lost to Kentucky, but whats really underperforming to a team thats lost 4 or more games since 2005 ?? Is it really that surprising that we lost 7 games this year? We lost 7 last year, 6 the previous and 7 before that. We had no seniors on the team that actually performed besides Poole (which is debateable) and Malik Jackson. Everyone raves about Lane Kiffin he lost 6 games on a team that had Eric Berry (could play both safety positions better than what we have now... At the same time. .. Dan Williams (1st round pick) Hardesty (2nd) Crompton scott and mclendon (late rounders) .. He also had Janzen and Lemarcus Thompson ( I just thought he was pretty good) What were you expecting?

If you can get to the SEC Championship game, you have a shot in any year. You win that game and are SEC champions who should have a shot at the big game with an undefeated or 1 loss season. Then you are 1 win away from the NC.

We are at least 1 or 2 seasons away from winning the SEC East and more to get to the NC.
