Pearls offensive scheme must be based on the fact of our lack of a big men and the fact we have team speed. The fast breaks and three's are really our best bet. It is very apparent of our team speed on D and how pestering we are at the full court press. I see Pearl doing what he can with what he has so a good question would be how many years does it take a B ball coach to cycle in the type players he needs to run the offense the way he wants. I would think in two or three years from now he will show UT what he is really capable of with his style player because I would think it would take 4 to 5 years to really have total control of the team and personnel.

Good question. TN hoops history dictates that we have trouble attracting the big men. We always seem to have to compensate in one way or another. How long will it take? I think it's already working. Have you seen his contagious enthusiasm and become somehow more excited about Vol basketball the past two years? I'll bet it hasn't escaped the notice of recruits. They are going to WANT to play for this man. I'll wager he will have very strong teams from now on. By the time these freshmen we have graduate we should be stacked with talent - big and small.

Not sure if he had much in the way of dominant big men at UW-M. However, he had a team of players that could bury the three. My guess is that we won't ever rely on a traditional inside game with BP. However, once he gets more consistent shooters/scorers, it won't be a problem.

If you want to do well in the NCAA tournament, you cannot rely on runing and shooting three's. First, you need to be able to weather the game where it isn't going down from 18 feet. Second, the officials let them bang around a lot harder in the tournament than in regular season. You have got to be able to get some boards because you cannot shoot lights out in every game.

I've watched in frustration as it took Donovan a decade to figure out that a team of three shooting guards will get you in, but not far. The successful programs and coaches over time you will see focusing on the big men, with perimter shooting being a complement to their play, rather than other way around.

You don't want to go down this road, trust me. Ask Donovan from '97 to '05.

We've BEEN down that road. Hell, we're ON it. But I agree - we need some bigger players to balance the act. And I think we should be able to attract some with CBP.
