I hate to be that guy that starts another one of these threads, but this one's not in reference to CPF. How long do you think it will be, or what will it take, before the heat that is currently on Fulmer shifts to Hamilton? It seems to me that if it weren't for the men's and women's B-ball programs, he might already be gone. You can only play the good-ole-boy system for so long before it's your butt in the fire. Thoughts?

Hamilton thinks CPF is his successor. He's scared to make a move right now but something will be done before the end of the season if UT's blown out or right after the season if things stay the same.

I've been on hambone like white on rice since the contract extension. Unjustified, fiscally irresponsible, just flat out ridiculous. That contract, along with the closely associated fact that our football program is running into the ground on his watch, will be his lasting legacy.

The Pearl hire was a great one, but all that political capital was burned up this summer in my mind.

I don't anticipate a move being made during the season, more likely after the season, if at all. If no move is made, I can't help but wonder if Hamilton wouldn't have sealed his own fate.

i know, but everybody is screaming for all the other coaches heads, maybe that implies Clawson too. but they aren't calling his name like Fulmer and Chavis...

Ask yourself this, if you were a new HC, with limited time to succeed in a ultra-competitve conference, would you retain Clawson?

The heat is on him...You will see that in 2 weeks when all of the fans dressed as empty seats show up...That will be the single reason there is a move made...:twocents:is the reason :crap2:

Only on the rare occasion when the coordinator is actually very good. In this case...no.

Based on what info have you made this judgement? Is it based on the respect of his peers or his recor as a HC or his reputation as a playcaller? Or is it based on 3 games with a pathetic QB and a sinking program with little accountability or discipline? I hope this whole debacle doesn't ruin Clawson's career. Even more so, I hope we can retain Clawson, Drayton, Scott and Michael. They are all quality, young coaches that can recruit like crazy. Getting rid of them would be stupid which is the only reason I'd consider letting Fulmer stay. On defesne, everyone should go except Brooks and Caldwell.

Easy there buddy. I never said, or even think, he's bad. I just don't think that he's very good or will get a chance to prove it this year. It's just that usually when a new coach is hired, he likes to bring in his own staff. Maybe if Clawson had been here for a few years and did a good job during that time, a new coach would keep him. Most of the time when coordinators are retained, it's when the HC leaves, not when he's fired.

I'd say most anyone we strongly considered as a replacement at HC would have their own staff in mind. I guess it's possible that some of the position coaches could stay, but I'd say unlikely Clawson stays if Fulmer is gone.

What impact on the program has Clawson been able to provide to date? Not much considering his limited time there. The new hire of HC would depend greatly on if he stays or goes since he is new to the job. He just does not have the history with the program as the rest of the staff.

The best thing Hamilton can be doing over the weeks leading up to the GA game is working the coaching network to gauge interest should he move to remove Fulmer. You don't do it during the year but you have to have a damn good idea of who would come if it was open. Especially at a program like UT where recruiting is so important.

It would not suprise me if that is a bargain chip with Phil should it get to the fired/retire conversation with UT. They probably promise him the AD job after Hamilton leaves. Phil would most likely welcome this becuase then he could start working the crowd a couple years after stepping down and get Hamilton gone. Suddenly, Hamilton goes in for a doctor visit, misses a couple weeks and Phil is running the show.

Do you really believe that? I can't imagine that we'd go back to the days of letting football coaches run Athletic Departments.
I can't imagine that we've allowed a coach to go a decade without winning an SEC title. Logic and results are irrelevant at UTK right now.

Wouldn't it be fitting if Fulmer gets fired, Clawson goes with him and then gets picked up by another big time school, and uses the Clawfense to lead the nation in offensive production?

:ermm:

Fulmer as AD. Hmmmmm....

In terms of booster money, you've got to think he'd be pretty good with that. On the other hand, how entusiastic would he be going from $3 mill a year to, what, $200k or so? Having to do the rubber chicken circuit?

Not going to happen.

Hamilton went "all in" when he gave Fulmer the extension that he did. Their fates are now entwined IMO.
