Conventional logic and reality says JJ missed all summer and fall workouts, which is significant, so he'll probably redshirt, and get 4 games in towards the end of the year. That being said, seeing the lack of speed by our LB's on Sat, maybe they just line him up and say "go get the ball". No doubt, Pruitt will do the right thing and not play him before he's ready, but man, I've got a feeling we're going to need him on the back half of the year to try and get bowl eligible, from SC to end of year.

Hope he is the superman people on here think he is.

I don’t think our linebackers are slow. I see them trying to think instead of react. What they’ve been learning WAS a concept and they tried it for the first time against a seasoned offensive crew with a Heisman frontrunner flipping the switches. Expect better each week.

Id say the plan should be for him to be a starter the last four games of the season. Still can redshirt and gets us to a bowl imo

I hope he gets some PT this year too. We'll need him next year fo sho.

My biggest concern is that with only a few more small of nudges, JJ Peterson could slip into that reverent realm of the likes of Rod Wilks and Paul Bain.

I believe Pruitt has already answered this question in the way he brought Trey Smith along after he was cleared to practice. He will make sure J.J. is physically in shape to play in a game before he sees the field, regardless of how much talent he possesses. I expect him to sit out ETSU and maybe get some snaps against UTEP, so that he's not thrown into the deep end of the pool in his first game against the Gators. I think that's best case scenario.

Bain does have our first fumble recovery of the year...he's NFL bound!

I don’t think this game is a great indicator of LB play simply because WV isn’t a running team. Contain wasn’t really the issue, nor was plugging the middle. Any success WV had running was due to UT playing on its heals for the pass.
In all honesty I thought we played good run defense for most of the game

They averaged 5 yards a carry, so I'd probably have to disagree with you. They relied mostly on the passing game, because they know that's their bread and butter. But they still rushed for 118 yards and would have almost surely done much better if they needed to. Imagine how many more missed tackle opportunities we would have had!

Not that simple. LB is a complicated position and I’m guessing he just got his playbook. He hasn’t even drilled vs college players yet. I don’t think it would benefit him by throwing him to the wolves. He’ll need a solid month of practice, conditioning and evaluation before he’s ready to be considered.

Petersen for Kongbo don't think he'll do worse may even make one play which would be more than Kongbo made. I'd like to see him ready to play vs Florida.

For those who just came on board the same chatter about Kongbo before he actually played.. Statements like I hope he don’t declare for NFL etc. he’s gonna kill people on & on
Hope JJ is all American but some players show up completely different in college versus HS. I’ll take wait & see. A total guess, we may see him on ST by the 5 game killer stretch. According to how he picks up on the D in practice and being in right place etc. If they think he’s gonna be great they’ll go ahead let him play over 4 games. If he’s not as good as advertised he’ll play 4 ST games & redshirt. Just a guess.

He won’t play this week of course but wouldn’t be shocked to see him on special teams next week if healthy. If his shoulder healthy?

Looked like inexperienced corner back and safety play to me.
1. That’s the problem with the safeties....they’re both very experienced, just neither is very good, especially Abernathy

2. The linebackers played very poorly as well. Couldn’t get off blocks, no “splash” plays to set the tone, just kinda out there adding to the misery of the front 7 in general.

3. Perhaps Peterson is really good and he’s up to speed and can help beginning game 6, after the Bye Week. But, then again, this is Tennessee football we’re talking about, so probably not
