How does Losing in 2OT mean we will lose to a horrible UF team?

I understand that the end of the game was a disappointment. And I understand why people are mad at Butch. But before the games most people were thinking, "I'd be ecstatic with a win, but a close loss shows significant progress". Now Tennessee loses in 2OT (thanks to some seriously bad calls, unlucky injuries, and far too conservative playcalling) and people start to question if Tennessee can beat a seriously down Florida team, who should be (and probably will end up being) an underdog to Kentucky.

If there is a big game for Tennessee to lose and perhaps learn how not to preserve a lead. Which game would you choose?
Oklahoma (non-conference)
Georgia (obviously not)
Alabama
or Florida?

There were some huge negatives in the game, but almost all of them are fixable (I think Butch will learn a lot from the game, as Tennessee has never been in that position before)
But I believe for every negative, there were at least 2 positives to take from the game.

2013 - FL was horrible and it was our year.
2014 - FL was horrible, we were at home checkering Neyland, and it was our year.
2015 - FL is horrible...

Florida is not a horrible team. They are still equally talented, if not more so, especially with all of our injuries. We haven't beaten them in 10 years and Butch will have enormous pressure on him to win this game. That's not good considering he's proven that he's one of the least clutch coaches in America when the pressure is on.

Then there's also the fact that their defense is essentially tailor-made to stop our offense. Stack the box and let their elite secondary jam and smother our overrated WR corps.

I think our WR problems stem from the deliver'er of the football and that janky rotation moreso than the receivers.

We did the exact same thing last year when we lost a 4th quarter lead against Florida. Butch did not learn anything from that game as he once again runs his hurry up and punt offense then panics once the lead is gone

Florida is beatable, just like Oklahoma was. But until we prove we can actually learn from our mistakes and close out a game there is no reason to be overly optimistic. With that said, I still hope we win every game and will cheer for the team to do so. This team can beat anyone onnour schedule but Saturday shows that we are just as likely to lose to anyone too

I think the feeling of Saturday's loss feels just like screwing around and not scoring enough like we did last year against Florida, therefore we'll probably do the same thing. I don't feel that way, but can't blame folks that do.

I don't think this Florida team wants to be the first one to lose to Tennessee in a decade on their home field. Probably another game that will come down to who executes in the fourth quarter.

I can easily see this as a low scoring game where the kicking game is huge. I don't know anything about UF's kicker but Medley is inconsistent right now. We may miss the FG which could've / should've won the game.

Couple of things:

- Crowd noise at Neyland severely limited their offense for 3.5 quarters. Once we keystone cop'd away TKJr's INT and OU scored... the crowd was deflated. OU, at that point, was unstoppable.

- OU used a walk-on QB. He was shifty and our Defense struggled to contain a mobile QB for the 2nd week in a row. Grier and Harris are more mobile than Johnson and Mayfield. That's another big problem.

- Game is at the Swamp. UT won't have a hostile crowd helping create false starts and missed assignments with a shaky OL (OU had a shaky OL... UF is worse).

- We have been playing musical chairs with our OL since the Spring Game. This will make communication difficult... especially in the Swamp.

- Florida has the best pair of CBs in the SEC... probably the nation. They will lock down everything outside. Their Safeties will likely play close to the LOS. Mizzou/Vandy/Oklahoma have perfected the art of beating UT. Simply blitz up the middle. We haven't adjusted in any of those 3 games and Dobbs even confirmed "we aren't going to change our scheme to adjust". I **** you not. We will not adjust what we're doing if they're blitzing.

I'm not saying Florida will beat Tennessee. I wasn't highly confident of it coming into this year. After the Oklahoma game my confidence in our staff's ability to craft a gameplan and then adjust it when things aren't going right is almost destroyed after watching that schematic and coaching meltdown in the 4th Quarter and watching a team blow a 14 point lead with 8:00 left in the game.

And Tennessee has been in the OU game position before. That's how we lost to Florida last year... remember? We were up 9-0 about halfway through the 4th Quarter and were insufferably conservative. They scored a TD, we responded weakly and then then scored a FG. Then we threw an INT.

In fact, the Worley fumble that led directly to their TD was eerily like the Hurd fumble (the one that put us out of FG range) that led directly to Oklahoma's first TD.

Lots of parallels and lots of the same lessons. Butch didn't learn. Both teams went flat because Jones didn't practice Neyland's 7th, and most important, Maxim. In both games we signaled we were comfortable being up by 9 and 14 midway through the 4th Quarter.

You can't be comfortable in college football unless you're up by 30+.. doesn't matter who you're playing. BGSU showed us that alone in Week 1. Jones hasn't learned. We can keep saying "he'll learn" but until we see it... well, he won't have.

In the big games he coaches scared which makes our players scared. He's had bold calls before (fake punt against Mizzou in 2014 for one) so I know he's got it in him. He just clams up when he has a lead in the 4th and OU wasn't the first time it's bitten him in the @ss. 2013 Vandy, 2014 Florida and now 2015 OU are all coming to mind.

And I really want Jones to turn it around. I do. I like Jones. I'm just sick of the cliches, excuses and lack of viable gameday wins. He hasn't shown much to me on gameday outside of 2013 USC.

UF isn't a horrible team and this UT team has it's own issues to deal with. This will once again be like two one legged men fighting each other in an ass kicking contest, with undoubtedly UF wearing the bigger boot once again.

If it comes down to that, evidence points to UT choking unless it's South Carolina.

That seems to be the one team we don't choke in the 4th against.

What if we go down to FL and go up on them early??? :dunno::dunno:

.

We go conservative again and they get some breaks, gain confidence, and barnstorm us.

I'm sure we have 100s of hours of analytics about how to play when you're up early in a football game.

I agree that Florida will give our O a tough time. Our Oline is not ready yet for a D as good as theirs. I just hope our D can play lights out and we can hit a big play or 2 to win. This may come down to another Medley field goal and he better be ready this time.

Take a knee for the rest of the game so that Florida has every opportunity to catch up and then take the lead in the 4th quarter and make it 11 in a row. Book it.
