How Does Keeping Pruitt Help Recruiting?

His recruiting class was ok on paper but Really didn’t help us.
That's NOT what we're discussing.

Why can't you all stay on SUBJECT?

I'm saying signing highley ranked guys is possible in short notice with the right type of approach and energy! At UT. Kiffin showed that. We're not talking about how the class turned out.

Two-edged sword and there's a cost either way. Some kids are committed and want to attend UT. Pruitt and his staff are a part of their decision and maybe a critical part. Replacing them with anything less than a big name "shock and awe" type of hire... which Fulmer is unlikely to make... likely sends kids with other good options elsewhere. OTOH, an underperforming coach can't hide. Opposing recruiters are going to snipe their best recruits by pointing out that the player won't get a chance to win, will not get their best chance at the NFL, and will likely have to endure a coaching change.

IMHO, Pruitt missed his window to handle this on his own terms. Even if UT had continued to lose... he could have claimed he was playing for the future that the recruits would be part of if he had made a QB change after UGA or UK at the latest. The "record" could have been explained by Covid. The decisions he's made can't be.

This is not really worth saving. At least not compared to the damage that another season of Pruitt will do.

Can’t keep a terrible employee bc of what might happen. Keeping Pruitt doesn’t help in the short term or the long term if he keeps losing next year. This class will be down and next years will be down also. And I don’t give a damn how good a recruiter he is, he sucks as a head coach. Rip the band aid off and be done with it.

I start to wonder if UT doesn't recruit to itself. EVERY coach we've had was able to produce top classes. Dooley...Kiffin....Butch. All they had to do was make somewhat of an effort. I keep bringing up Wisconsin. No classes even in the top 30 the last 2 decades....yet flirting w the BCS every year. A program w superior coaching and finding the right guys that fit the program. They develop 3 stars and make em better than any 4 star we could come up with. UT with so much talent...should be waaaaay better than we are...yet Wisconsin would absolutely annihilate us 10 out of 10 times. We need a REAL coach. Pruitt has no friggin clue. Zero.

We will never out recruit Bama...unless we got a guy like Gruden in. I believe he could get us a legit #1 class. Short of someone like him...we are behind the 8 ball...but what Bama has is not only the ability to get a #1 class...but the program consistency and development of a Wisconsin. They are a friggin machine of the best recruiting AND coaching. Doesn't mean we should give up trying to challenge them.

I’ve read a few posts around the football forum saying keeping Pruitt for another year will save this years recruiting class.

If that’s the case then why are our formal commitments starting to look elsewhere? How exactly possibly going 3-7 will help recruiting?

The rate is going, Pruitt will have nothing left to sell.
Keeping Pruitt kills recruiting!!

One time transfer rule is coming too... don’t forget about that. I wouldnt want to be changing coaches this year.

You do realize that the rule change will just make it easier for 2021 signees to leave next during or after next season with Pruitt still here, right?

Pruitt effectively hasn't recruited any better than Dooley or the horn-blower....by the numbers at least. All of them recruited to the middle of the SEC, and this year is not likely to finish any differently.

I'm beginning to think, outside of an occasional outlier season, pretty much anyone can recruit us to the 5th-8th in the SEC.

Recruiting is not all about the record. Recuiting also about relationship and fit. Recruits have built relationships with coaches and that is probably the most important factor. Don't get me wrong a reputation for winning is a strong recruiting tool but that only applies to a few schools at any one time.

Bull

Bring in a name like freeze,Campbell, fickle, and the interest will generate enough of a class to go w what is there already and the recruiting begins to rise significantly

Freeze isn’t coming here to be fired after 2 years. Do you really want another Cincy coach with zero big school experience. Campbell has taken 5 years at ISU and motto is trust the process. Do you really believe Vols fans want 5 years of trusting a process?

Let’s see the process here play out. Give Pruitt a full actual chance to get things headed right. Let’s see what he can do with players he recruited with time and reps to develop. This was a throw away season thanks to Covid and youth. If this haven’t improved with time and reps next season then considering a change makes sense.

I have admired what Wisconsin has done for years. Two friends with backgrounds in athletics and conditioning, in addition to long ties to the program, give a lot of credit to the emphasis on player development with a nod to Barry Alvarez

Then outcome of that class
And
The Ability to sign them on short notice
Are TWO DIFFERENT THINGS.
We're not talking about how the class turned out. Stay on point...

Freeze at this point, he has proven on the field, he is the best candidate we have the chance of actually getting on board since 2008. A proven winner. He's won some big games. Destroyed a very good Okie State team in a BCS Bowl. Beat Bama twice. Got LIBERTY in the top 25 haha.

And he's a lights out recruiter.

The outcome of any class is all that matters....ever.... they are either contributors or they are not.....
