Dooley had #9 and #13 recruiting classes in '10 and '11, and looks a lock to get to #6 or #7 in 2012.

Given our poor performance in the field since 2004, what is he selling? Why do these kids want to come here?

Believe me, I know the great history of this program (I've lived most of it), but these days that counts for zip. Yet these 18 and 20 yo's keep coming.

Are these kids and their parents clever enough to grasp the historical certainty that the Vols are way over due for greatness?

Happy and befuddled.

First i agree totally that Dooley is an awesome recruiter but you made a huge mistake. You are assuming we are the only team that will move in the polls on NSD. We are almost guaranteed top 15 likely between 10 and 12. Getting 6 or 7 with only 2 slots left would take some massive surprises.

Were in the SEC, and kids want to play in the SEC no matter who the coach is. Nine SEC teams are ranked in the top 20 right now..including Vandy. If you want to play in front of 90K every week, how many options do you have?

according to Rivals, we've got 22 commitments

are you saying we get only 24?

if we sign 1 5* and 3 4*s, (or even 4 4*s) we move up a lot

nevertheless, it's a top 10 class

now, stop majoring in the minors and answer my questions

I doubt we sign a 5 star. I think the only one we are even remotely close with is Hamilton. Dooley and the rest of the coaches are just good recruiters. I'm sure they are selling the VFL program, playing time, the SEC, and the stadium/facilities.

Funny.

The problem is how if UT/Dooley sells well and we keep losing 6 games a year, we don't end up like underachieving Texas in 2 years?

Do these recruits think CDD is a good HC and why?

Well WV, I'll give it a shot. Last time I checked we were only behind ND in terms of recruiting budget. That's a biggie because the staff has no limit to resources.

We also have fantastic facilities, like top 5 in the country facilities.

If you can ever take the time to look at the army, literally, army of folks employed by UT to get these kids in the best shape, eating the right things, doctors...the support staff for the kid's education alone is ridiculous. I guess there's the VFL in there somewhere too.

Because we aren't winning too many games, there's early playing time, and even though we have some depth now, what kind of depth is it? 5-7 type depth? Kids want to play, they don't wanna ride the pine and wait their turn, and it requires little effort to see that Dooley isn't afraid to play a freshman.

His last name is Dooley, and he has the Georgia drawl. He played college football, got a law degree and then became a coach. All that plays well for "momma" in the living room.

Finally, with the new numbers/roster requirements, Bama and LSU can't land them all and if you want to play for a National Championship, ya gotta be in the SEC.

Hope CDD can win some games next year. He's been pretty good at everything else.

How the Hell should any of us know? Kids get sold on more than just the staff.

You act like he has been here 5 years... A football team is made up of 4 classes.. Dooley played this year with almost no upperclassmen to speak of. In his 2 years here I would challenge you to find a successful program that played more underclassmen in the 2 deep or even close to as many. It will take a good 6 years for this whole thing to stabilize fully we will be competitive in 2012 and 2013 but 2013 and 2014 we will graduate a ton of seniors and the newish 25 rule is gonna hurt is.

Funny enough the best that can happen is we lose a couple of juniors in 2012 to spread out the pain. This is why I think we are recruiting so many at DB and WR right now.

DD being a good HC or not is only a small part of the equation. Ohio St is ranked 13 right now, and they had an interim coach this year. Recruits are looking at the big money schools with big TV contracts because thats the NFL schools.

Regardless, with Urban at tOSU, they are going to be a powerhouse and we can only hope that he stays out of the south and purely recruits the north, but I doubt that will happen
