How difficult would it to bring Bruce back?

If Barnes decides to posture again next year and dips out on us, how likely/possible would it be to bring Bruce back?

ZERO chance

No program in the world would be willing to pay 25 million (or so) for his buyout.

Barnes was not willing to pay around 2.3 million of the buyout to go to UCLA.......so he isn’t going to pay it.

Tennessee would never force him out one year into this new contract and pay 20-25 million.

Barnes is here for 4 more years regardless. Really the HUGE buyout should make everyone happy, the school, the fans, Barnes and even recruits.

I’m sorry I know a lot of you folks still want Pearl............but it’s simply not going to happen.

Loved Bruce Pearl while he was in Knoxville. His teams brought excitement & Bruce really loved Tennessee. That said, it's water over the dam. Rick Barnes is our basketball coach, & that makes me hopeful & happy. Move on.

Apparently, Barnes buyout is still only $1 million/yr left on his contract if he leaves for another job. That didn't change in the new deal, which was a mistake by Fulmer, IMO. Tennessee is on the hook for the full amount if he is fired without cause.

Th hangup in a deal with Pearl, no matter how farfetched that idea seems, is that Pearl's buyout is $8 million over the next 2 or 3 years, I believe, and Tennessee isn't paying that.

Fulmer really got a pretty crappy deal for the university

I’m certainly not saying your wrong as I don’t know. This article is where I got my info (scroll down to buyout section) not saying it’s correct.

The 10 biggest differences in the new contract for Rick Barnes

The article doesn’t specify which way or if it’s two way; however from their “wording” it makes one believe it’s two way.

From the article......as to why it looked like the buyout goes two ways.

“The buyout in his previous contract, according to Barnes, is what kept him at Tennessee after negotiations with UCLA broke down due to the $5 million that would have been owed to the Vols had he left, at a rate of $1 million per year remaining on his contract. Under his new contract amendment, a lot more money is involved

Not sure how?

I’m a Vol fan.........not necessarily a Barnes fan. I think Barnes is one of the most renowned and most qualified coaches to come here. I think he is doing a fine job; however if Barnes leaves, Tennessee is now in a MUCH better position to find a suitable replacement.

Tennessee is not in a “dumpster fire” Tennessee has talent, and they have shown they are willing to go all in on basketball (which would lead to much better prospects than before).

I’m here for Tennessee basketball, Barnes just happens to be the coach. If I thought he sucked I would be complaining but I don’t.

Expecting Barnes to be here for 4 years.

If he’s willing to leave after all he’s accomplished this season why wouldn’t it be a yearly guessing game

I would expect Barnes to be here if he had a 20+ million buyout.

Now I understand that isn’t the case..........and I’m still more upbeat and excited than before the new contract. Tennessee showed they are willing to pay top 3 money for a basketball coach (for a time anyway.......as it’s going to get real expensive soon). Sure I want Barnes here; however now Tennessee has a much......much better chance of landing a really good coach........next time they need one.

I assure you I’m not going to be disappointed anytime soon. Now let’s say Barnes leaves, Tennessee hires a great coach and 3 years later he is sucking..........yep I’ll be sorely disappointed. But that’s a long way off.

Bruce Pearl's buyout is 8 million and decrease 2 million a year, not 25 million.

I don't think Pearl wants to leave Auburn, even if Tennessee came calling.

You're right, Barnes is here until he retires. We're now handing out 200K bonuses for making the NCAA Tournament, welcome to 2019 I suppose.

I was talking about Barnes buyout not Pearl, other than that I’m with you though.

Sports or regular folk only get really one good run at leveraging for more pay. What's he going to posture for...there's only two coaches who are paid more money??? Barnes has his golden ticket...but any time you go get the big money, you have to perform, AND be OK with the scrutiny if you don't...it's goes with the territory. Like Bruce, but there's no scenario he will be back at UT, so what's the point of bringing it up?
