Actually the top 6 highest ranked conference champs get in so you’ll actually get 2 non-P5 teams in since the Pac 12 is no more. You’ll also see the mediocre Big 12 champ get an automatic bid.Liberty represents the highest ranked non Power 5 school. They get a New Year’s 6 bowl. Last year it was Tulane.
As I understand and others can correct, next year the highest ranked non-power 5 team also will get a playoff birth if not already ranked in the Top 12.
That is something I wish they would change about the playoff. That G5 team will take the spot of someone who has played in a much tougher conference and would be the better team.Liberty represents the highest ranked non Power 5 school. They get a New Year’s 6 bowl. Last year it was Tulane.

Expanding the field will not give us the best 12 teams but it'll make it likely that everybody who has a legit argument that they are Top 4 in.That is something I wish they would change about the playoff. Contractually can’t. Orange Bowl’s contract is that it has to be the highest ranked ACC team (or champion) outside of the playoffs against the highest ranked remaining SEC/BIG10 team (outside of the playoffs, Rose Bowl, and Sugar Bowl games). They should have had Liberty play Florida st and let Oregon play Georgia. Maybe then everyone would stop making them a victim,
Something big needs to happen. There needs to be another split of subdivisions.Sucks too. Hate that crap. They had the 133rd SOS out of 133 teams
