Are any of you guys interested in helping recruit? I have an idea. Let's vote on ten prospects. Each of us can sign our name to a document for each. Then, we can mail the document to his high school addressed to him. This wouldn't determine the outcome for many. But, it may tilt a few up in the air decisions our way.

Maybe it is a lame idea. I just thought I would throw it out their for opinions. Everyone on Vol Nation seems to have many, LOL, =).

Is a letter telling the prospects fans want the prospect to come to the university a violation? No one said anything about money. Oh well, I guess the idea is lame. Forget I mentioned it, LOL.

Dr. Vinny Boombotz, you rarely have anything positive to say. I wouldn't expect anything else from you. But, I do like your avatar.

I'm not certain.. But I think any outside contact from anyone but the coaching staff is a violation.. Otherwise you would have people hounding these kids all the time...

and i like your avatar.. =)

probaly the only reason I was civil and didn't blast the idea

I never have anything positive to say when someone is trying to sway people to commit a NCAA violation (I'm pretty sure because there has been stories about MySpace & Facebook) for the team I love.

If everything I said was praise then my praise wouldn't be worth much.

This is the perfect opportunity to use the new "ignore thread" feature.

Seriously, is it a violation if a fan from a certain school contacts a highschool player by email, etc and tells them that they would love to see them wearing their school"s colors the next year?

If it is then I will be using the name #1Bamafan next week when I send out 200 emails to potential Bama players. Ha! Ha! JK.

Nevermind, I talked to Spurrier. He said, we couldn't do it. There isn't a test for us alumni or fans.

The NCAA's definition of "representative of a university's athletic interest" is the most ridiculously broad piece of legislation ever written. The only thing more absurd than the definition itself is the 'AA's interpretation thereof.

A brief excerpt from UT's site

Who is a Representative of Athletic Interests (Booster/Donor)?

NCAA rules indicate that all alumni, friends, and employees of the University are categorized as "representatives of athletics interests". The NCAA stipulates that once an individual has been identified as a representative or "booster/donor" of the University's athletics programs, he or she retains this status forever even if the individual is no longer associated with the athletics program. Furthermore, the NCAA states that it is possible to be a representative of athletics interest at more than one university at the same time.

A representative of athletics interests is anyone who has ever:

* made any type of contribution to the athletics department or to a booster club
* joined the institution's booster club or any sport specific support group
* provided or helped arrange employment for a student-athlete
* provided benefits to enrolled student-athletes or their families
* assisted in any manner in the recruitment of prospective student-athletes
* promoted the institution's athletics program in any manner.
* purchased season tickets from the University.

As a representative of athletics interests (booster/donor), you may not:

* contact a prospect's coach, principal or counselor in an effort to evaluate a prospect
* visit the prospect's institution to pick up film or transcripts pertaining to the evaluation of the prospect's
academic eligibility or athletic ability
* contact a prospect, his/her parents, legal guardians or spouse on or off campus
* contact a prospect by telephone or by letter
* make special arrangements for entertainment for recruiting purposes
* provide extra benefits to a prospect, student -athlete at UT or another institution or to the parents, family and/or guardians of the prospects or student athlete's.

Yes, this would be a violation. Purely writing on their facebook wall would be considered a violation as well, so please, do not try to help recruit, do not send any letters or e-mails. Let our staff do their thing, sit back and follow it until national signing day.
