How about our amazing play calling?

The biggest disappointment for me watching the Fl game (besides losing Hunter) was our play calling. Every time we ran the ball, it was out of a power formation of some sort. They did the same thing against Cincy and Montana, but I thought they were just trying not to show too much in those games. Nothing changed against Fl. It seems to me that we could have used Fl's speed against them with some draw plays. Maybe even run some screen passes.

Its just so frustrating when we make everything so obvious. You don't have to be an amazing defensive coordinator to defend against what we're calling. I know that Fl has a lot of talent on their team, but it just seems we made it way too easy with our play calling. Flashbacks of Randy Sanders.

One thing I kept noticing was that we did not run any 5-Wide formations vs Florida. UT ran quite a few in the first two games with great success. IDK, maybe losing Hunter on the first drive had something to do with it.

Good point. I was very surprised we didn't go 5 wide at all, especially after it became obvious that we could gain nothing on the ground.

and we never got our backs in the passing game like we should. we could have a matt forte of college. lol. but i agree completely with this. we never saw any trickery or fourth down conversions or onside kicks

if we had tried trickery and failed, you all would be lambasting CDD for the bad call. the play calling wasnt too bad, we didnt use 5 wide because our number 1 was out, and rivera did a good job catching the ball from the te position.

It seemed like our play progression went run, run, pass every time with the occasional second down pass. Our line is like that of the Detroit Lions: good at pass-blocking, but our run-blocking is comical. The o-line is huge too, so there really are no good excuses.

were completely blown up--went nowhere. You can't run a draw when the middle of your line is getting blown up as ours was. I don't know why we don't run screens--except that we have a history of running them badly. Didn't we run DaRick on an end-around once in the first half? Got little. We HAVE to get quick backs involved in the passing game--it's a MUST. We are throwing to the TE effectively--I was impressed by Rivera in the florida game. A total shame about Hunter. I think Arnett and Dallas are talented, too--and we would have had a huge passing attack this year with a healthy Hunter.

I wasn't really referring to trick plays, just a little more creativity. Make their defense have to think a little bit at least. I do agree that Rivera played well though. He's turning out to be much better than most of us thought when he was brought in.

If I remember correctly we ran 5 wide multiple times...I agree about the obviousness of the running game though.

We have found a good slot receiver in Arnett. That little quick out is just as good as handing it to the tailback

IIRC poole had an 11 yd run on a draw.

We're too slow out of the hole on the running game. I think we should work in Marlin Lane and the big fullback Fugate. Poole looks too bulked up like that kid on Christmas story that couldn't run because he was all bundled up.

We also didn't match up well with Florida. We had no answer to their speed, especially when we never blitz. No agression. They killed us with the blitz. LOOK, when you can't stop the passing game downfield with 8 back....try to stop it in the backfield. Leave this game with nothing left in the playbook.

Looks like Stone was getting jacked. That's usually what's up when your center loses it.

All things considered, a series of unfortunate penalties, injury, and mistakes, we hung close, but still lost. We could have won, but they still have a better team. We've got some work to do.

UT is obviously passing the ball most downs.
I would like to see more WR's out there.
Who are we kidding, everyone in the stadium knew UT was going to throw it 90% of the time.
Why the pretense?

We have no offensive identify other then wing it and sling it. Jim Chaney was offensive coordinator in college several years ago but he ran a spread offense. Chaney has never ran a pro style offense and that's why Kiffin didn't hire Chaney to call plays.

They called plays that should work versus what they were doing. You take what the defenses gives you, especially when you can't dictate what you want to do. Tennessee just isn't a complete team yet. They have a few nice peices but it's not complete.

D. Dooley = B. Peterson
Plain and simple.
Nobody questions his heart, his desire to win, his work ethic, etc. Keep listing things you like about a coach and that is what everyone and their mother was doing when Buzz arrived on campus.
"Just give him time"
"He has what it takes, it won't happen overnight"
"He just has to get his own players"
"The previous coach left him in an awful situation"

Sound familiar?

Well were stuck with Buzz for at least two more years so get used to it.

I can't just get used to losing to our main rivals every year. I'm not a Vandy fan.

Probably couldnt afford to run 5 wide with the blitzes coming at us.

This plus it takes one of your best pass catchers (Rivera) off the field. No way I'd rather have Milton and Dallas in the game instead of Rivera and a RB.
