Hi everyone-I'm going to make my way out for the UGA game and I need a place to stay. Any suggestions for the budge conscious traveler? Thanks in advance

This will help you. Go here-- type in search box: Knoxville, Tn. You will get a long list of hotels. You can also read previous patron's reviews of the hotel.

You will probably have to stay at least 10-15 miles out.

Yeah probably, Oak Ridge isn't that far and the drive over to UT goes quick. There's quite a few decent hotels here, but you might be able to find something a little closer actually in Knoxville.

With UGA and UT down this year, you can find plenty of good hotels close by for this game.

When we play a team whose fans come in from the south or west, I've found it pretty easy to find decent lodging on I-40 EAST of town and not to far out. ie, the Strawberry Plains exit or farther out at the Sevierville-Pigeon Forge-Gatlinburg exit. Not the Ritz but passable.

If you want in-expensive and you don't mind driving 45 minutes to the game...we always stay at the Tennessee Mountain Lodge on the strip in Pigeon Forge...50 buck rooms and they are clean. Nice heated pool and walking distance to everything. Make it a nice long weekend and catch the game.

Thanks everyone for your replies. I've found a ton of good places. A special thanks to justingroves, that's very hospitable of you, and I appreciate that! Unfortunately, my girlfriend is coming with me, and she'd throw a fit! Anyway, one last quick question-is there any place while in K-ville and the surrounding area that I should avoid? I just don't want to end up walking around or visiting a place where people die for stepping out of the car.

Again, thanks for your responses-My parents are from Tennessee and I grew up as a Vol fan (watched or listened to every single game since 1989-when I was 6 years old) and finally made my way out to Kville for the first time last year for the LSU game. I stayed in Nashville, however, and I'm not too familiar with Kville.

Games I've been to

2004-Cotton Bowl vs TAMU
2006-vs LSU
2006-at Arky
Looking forward to multiple games in 07-unless I get any madder at the coaches

Try the Cedar Bluff exit.....there is plenty to do and eat around there plus you can get right on/off the interstate. It is about 9-10 miles from downtown on the West side of Knoxville.

Or even a few exits farther west. That Turkey Creek restaurant/shopping/entertainment area is pretty nice and nearby. And so is Sam & Andy's.

Unless you show up with an Aints-style paper bag on your head and spend nothing at the concession stands, going to games is counter-productive to getting rid of CPF.
