I understand you support him because you know him personally, but our OL has underperformed under Adkins. And Fulmer being a big fan of his is reason enough for him to be shown the door.

You make it seem that it's just the boosters that want Coach O, plus you make that getting Ed would be a negative thing

"Special teams and the ability to get young talent on the field were two of the major areas pointed out."

Seems like Mike could have just consulted our message board or any reasonable Vol fan that has watched UT football in the past decade.

The guy was asked to teach a complex scheme in one year to a group of vets...sometimes it's easier teaching the stuff to guys who don't have to re-learn it.

My opinion of Adkins has nothing to do with me knowing him -- it has to to with talking to people around the league BEFORE he was hired and watching him operate in practice and talking to linemen who played for him AFTER they left.

And, for what it's worth, Adkins had his questions about the new scheme last spring -- but dutifully went along with the plan to the best of his ability.

Trust me -- Adkins is top-notch, and unless Lane has an NFL guy already in mind, he'd be very hard-pressed to find someone as good as Adkins.

I find this believable

This statement by Griff is curious... "And, speaking of what Lane Kiffin hopes to bring, it has been learned that Lane's hire was contingent on Monte Kiffin coming along with him.

While it has just recently been made official, the UT power brokers all but insisted the Vols land the Super Bowl winning defensive coordinator."

I just watched the interview with Monte on the Bucs web-site and HE said there was no deal. He decides what he will do. Now, is someone lying? Is someone just trying to make us believe that they have an 'inside' track? I wonder. I said in another post it really does not matter if there were conditions or not. It shows our AD is pretty savvy in his business decisions. He has taken some flack on how the Fulmer firing was handled. Maybe so. The Pearl hire is obvious, the jury is still out on the baseball coach, and hiring the Kiffin family is going to show itself real soon. Let's hope it turns out as well as the Bruce.

Considering reports have Coach O coming in to coach the DL, I assumed Cregg would be the OL coach.

It's not like Anthony Parker was a bona fide All-American, either, so I'd say someone did a pretty good job coaching that line up ....
If you hadn't noticed, recruiting has dropped off a tad...:nono::nono:

Cregg may be the TE coach. Just depending on number of coaches and who fits where...

I had thought Adkins had been removed from consideration of being retained...this was all new news to me...albeit bad news too.

Good read Griff.

Also I have to give you kudos. Most writers put up there blogs or editorials and thats that but you post it here for some harsh critics. Got my respect for that as little as that is worth lol.

Its not like last year was our only bad year from the OL.

2 years ago that offensive line was lucky to have a QB that had a great ability of not taking sacks and hitting cheerleaders in the back of the head. Ainge bailed them out on many occasions.

I'll buy what your selling. I must say that I was worried when I heard this past season that they were going to be switching linemen up for strong side and weak side runs etc. I could see where he would struggle getting kids to make the change, and changing his methods of teaching after years of doing it. The OL hasn't been great the last few years, but I can't recall a year as bad as this last one.
