The "hostess " program is alive and well at all campuses. There is limited visual evidence. Let me explain. My son is being recruited and the twelve schools (D1, DII) he visited had a host/hostess give the student/athletes a tour. Some schools used redshirted/medical redshirt players, other sport athletes and students and two schools a combination of all. Of course the redshirts were male, the other sport athletes were both male and female and the students were female. The curious theme was picture taking could be done with the football athletes but prohibited with theother student/athletes and student hostesses when attempted at Tennessee, South Carolina, Georgia Tech and East Carolina. The reason given was NCAA rules prohibit photos with the host member. We did not pursue any further but as usual, the GREAT SEEING EYE (blind or limited vision on some programs) enforces rules at their leisure.
