I know nobody really wanted Dooley, but I hope if UT can't get a home run guy that he gets a chance to slowly get the program back.
Everyone is worshipping Gruden as if he would have the Vols back in the top 15 in year one (ok not everyone). People tend to forget Georgia, Florida and Bama finished 11-1, SCjr went 10-2 and just beat Clemson with backup QB and RB, LSU also finished 10-2 and should've beaten Bama, Texas A&M looks to hand out some more tail whippings next year, and now Vandy isn't a team to kick around anymore. So get ready to endure more so-so seasons even if Bray CP and Hunter return and Belicheck is named HC. Let's make sure we're patient and not run the next coach off if the team isn't beating UGA UF and Bama in year 2. The team will have to major reload after next year so he's in for a challenge.

And by no means am I saying we ran off Dools too early. He should have been let go after the Mizzu insanity.

The Fans are ready to win. But are the powers that be ready to pay big time money. VU coach makes 2.7 million.

With all due respect, we could have won every game save Bama if we had a least some coaching adjustments. We are in position to make major strides fast with a great hire.

For any coach to expect job security they at least have to have a few high profile wins in their first 3 years.

Not only did DD not have any significant wins he lost to a pathetic KY team, went into overtime against ALA Birmingham, stood toe to toe with Troy and never ran away from Akron or even GA State. Even the lustre of the NC State game has been diminished after they fired O'Brien. They must show significant improvement week to week, year to year.

UT has as much talent and experience returning on the OL and DL as anyone in the SEC.

Vol logic is correct. UT could have won every game except Bama with even a mediocre DC. And who knows about that one if the D hadn't been swiss cheese?

The new coach.is taking over an experienced roster with a lot of talent that has been not used, under used or improperly used. If the new guy can put together a good class and a strong defence.we will be.fine

As long as we are seeing real, tangible, on the field progress I think he will get that chance. No one will expect us to win the East next year but let's at LEAST finish the season 7-5 and make a bowl. To me that would be acceptable progress from this season. In year 2 we should see even more progress by upsetting a ranked opponent or two. Year 3 we should be at least in the hunt for the East and by year 4 we should be setting our sites for Atlanta.

Oh yes, and letting a newbie to the conference come from 14 points down to beat you at home.

If the Florida game broke our hearts the MIZZOU game broke our backs.

This is the age of instant gratification and it works the other way also. We should give atleast 3 years to bring us back to prominence. and 2 years to show some progress....

Unfortunately the new coaches 2nd year will be tough, he will probably have only 1 returning starter on the OL and 1-2 on DL (4 man front), may lose AJ, so 7-5, 8-4 the first two years. JMO

Tennessee hasnt been finished a season two games above. 500 since 2007.

It's still a rebuild

Non of the teams that Vandy beat are bowl eligible. How hard is that???
Let's imagine that we did NOT have Dooley as our coach and we had the following schedule.

Auburn
Kentucky
Akron
Georgia State
N.C. State
Ole Miss
Troy
Missouri

All of those are games we can win IF we did not have Dooley as our coach.
Now, how hard was it for Vandy to get to 8 wins?
I bet they won't match that record next season...

Why are you commenting on the Vol Coaching situation? Don't you have a Florida Gator board to go too? Please do everyone the favor and shut the **** up.

Dooley made a bad hire on defense and that is why we couldn't win games where we scored 44 points and 35 points. He should have went for a 4-3 guy and one with some experience. Sunseri turned out to be a worse hire than Dooley and it kept Dooley from winning possibly two to three more games.

The next coach will get a chance if it's not someone like Smart or Golden. How long his chance lasts depends on how fast the team starts showing improvement and how fast he can get a big win over someone that we weren't suppose to beat.

Four wins in the conference next year and win our three out of conference games that aren't Oregon would be a good start in year one IMO.

The win totals and quality wins have to start going up starting with the second year or the fan base will start to lose confidence. It's just the nature of the beast in this day and age and I'm sure there isn't a coach out there that doesn't realize this.

our defense is terrible this year. watch the games. bringing the same slow dumb players back is not going to make them any faster or smarter. THEY ARE SLOW. THEY WILL BE SLOW NEXT YEAR. IT WILL TAKE 2-3 YEARS OR REAL RECRUITING BEFORE WE CAN CHALLANGE ANYONE ON THE DEFENSIVE SIDE OF THE BALL. please watch the games.
