0-8 is all you need to know. No matter how bad Dooley and Pruitt were, they didn’t go 0-8.I will never understand the loathing of some Tennessee fans for Butch. He was in over his head and abilities but compared to his predecessor and successor, he was easily heads and shoulders better than those two guys. IMO, he tried to win in the ways he knew how and gave his all, but was never going to over come his shortcomings.
The interview just shines a light on how his personality will likely never allow him to be super successful. His constant reminders about his successes. no matter how small, coupled with the name-dropping that never stops, makes him seem very insecure, which isn't typically a trait of those who reach pinnacles of success.
Smoking a cigar after he carried Saban’s assistant’s, assistant’s clipboard after Bama beat us. Will erase any good feelings.I will never understand the loathing of some Tennessee fans for Butch. I always thought it was petty that when he staged his home to sell on Realtor or Redfin, that he put a Bama helmet in his walk in closet or somewhere. He had a much bigger impact on us losing after he left than Bama winning anything when he was there fetching Lil Debbie’s for Saban.Smoking a cigar after he carried Saban’s assistant’s, assistant’s clipboard after Bama beat us. Nope, Jones was the worst. He literally went 4-8 in year 5, the worst year in the history of Tennessee athletics, possibly ever. At least Dooley and Pruitt never went 0-8 in conference. Jones got so lucky that he found lightning in a bottle with Josh Dobbs, because without Dobbs, Jones probably would have been fired in Year 2. Jones literally won 11 games over 5 years without Joshua Dobbs as his starting QB. That's a (.180) winning percentage without Dobbs. It gets worse. Without Dobbs, Jones only won 1 SEC game in 5 seasons. 13 of Jones's 14 SEC victories came with Josh Dobbs at QB. That means Jones's SEC winning percentage was (.042) without Dobbs under center.Out of the 3 disasters - Dooley, Jones, and Pruitt - Jones was way better than the other 2
Butch gave us our worst season in history, our worst home loss in our history, and our worst QB in our history. Then he went to Bama and smoked a cigar on the opposing sideline after destroying our program. I don't understand how anyone can feel anything but contempt towards that fool.I will never understand the loathing of some Tennessee fans for Butch. Even AL fans made fun of him while he was there. Agree he did nothing for AL FB. He had to find a job in FB to keep getting his buyout $ and he got Saban to hire him as an analyst. Paid him $30K/yr so he could collect his millions from TN. It all was just him screwing TN. And then you have the cigar thing after the win.I always thought it was petty that when he staged his home to sell on Realtor or Redfin, that he put a Bama helmet in his walk in closet or somewhere. He just had no clue of the expectations or requirements for leading a major college football program. And he grew bitter and resentful when the fans voiced those expectations.Even AL fans made fun of him while he was there. Agree he did nothing for AL FB. No respect for him at all.
