1. I honestly thought Hugh Freeze would turn Auburn around in short order. Secretly, I was hoping for him to be the Vols coach before JH was hired.
2. I wasn’t sure Kelly would be the perfect fit at LSU, but if Ed O and Les could win a natty there, I thought for sure Kelly could.
3. Billy N had turned down several jobs before taking UF, seemed like a great hire.
4. Never was sold on Pittman at Arkansas, but hey, it’s Arkansas.

Funny, after week one, DeBoor was all but gone at Alabama. The week after FlSt loss, all Finebaum’s show for 5 straight days was discussing DeBoors buyout and who would be interim when they fired him mid season.

The SEC coach who has honestly impressed me the most this year is Tx AM coach. Seems like he is flying under the radar a little, but right now he gets my vote for SEC coach of the year.

Vandy’s coach will get it, imo but Elko has been a good hire for aTm.

Just wondering if there are any home run hires out there? It’s easy for everyone to want to fire a coach, but it seems like it’s similar to going to Vegas and trying to roll a 7. Appears the only winners in the game are the agents of the coaches.

Yep. Sports Talk J had an excellent segment on this very thing. He basically explained how because there’s such coaching turnover, schools have to lock their coaches in with huge contracts to keep them from leaving. In turn, the coaches really don’t care as much if they get fired or are successful because they’re set for life either way.

I actually appreciated Ed Orgeron for being honest when LSU fired him or “mutually agreed with him to leave”. He basically said he’s rich now and doesn’t care.

Just remember, the hottest ticket for these teams needing a coach is….Lane Kiffin. (Who might not even leave Ole Miss cause it looks like they’ll be in the CFP.) And he didn’t make the playoffs last year When Ole Miss was loaded.

No, he retired and is now on game day.

Some teams are likely to get a run at the only NC coach who is likely to be available. But he does't bring a lot of joy to whoever hires him.

There are only 3 coaches who have won the national.... its not something that is easy. Have to have enormus talent and luck to win one..
