Rob Cassidy, West: Tennessee is only surprising because of the season it had. It's hard for an SEC team with national titles to its name to shock, but a No. 4 recruiting ranking paired with a 5-7 record is impressive nonetheless. What Butch Jones and accompany have accomplished recruiting-wise since taking over the Vols' program is beyond outstanding when you consider the circumstances. Tennessee isn't exactly the little program that could, but it's current ranking is at least a bit of an upset.
Woody Wommack, Southeast: It's the obvious choice but with the way Butch Jones and Tennessee have recruiting this cycle coming off a sub-.500 year is really incredible. The Vols still have a chance to finish in the top five of the Rivals Team Rankings and have done an incredible job of building and maintaining a great class. Obviously when a school takes upwards of 30 players it's because they need an injection of talent and that's exactly what Jones and company have done with their first full recruiting cycle.
Adam Friedman, Mid-Atlantic: I think most people are impressed by what Butch Jones and his staff at Tennessee have done with their class this year. The Vols are the only team in the top five of the team rankings that had a losing season in 2013. Maybe more importantly, they locked down their home state, grabbing commitments from five of the top six players in Tennessee. Josh Malone, the best player in the Vols' 2013 class, looks like he will be a surefire difference maker when he steps on the field in Knoxville. Probably the most impressive thing coach Jones has done is create this buzz about Tennessee on the recruiting trail and it is continuing to build.
Jason Howell, Midlands: The Tennessee Volunteers are the team. What Butch Jones is doing on the recruiting front has to make Volunteer fans across the country smile. Tennessee already has five-stars Josh Malone and Jalen Hurd, the nation's No. 2 tight end, and two of the top 10 JUCO recruits on campus. The Volunteers have clamped down on the in-state talent with four of the top five committed, and have dipped into Georgia and Florida with success. Then there is the presence in the Midwest. Jones and the Volunteers currently sit No. 4 in the team rankings and No. 3 in the SEC. Not bad at all as Signing Day approaches.
