History says Defense Takes a Big Step Forward

A win would be great but it's not gonna happen. However, I am very interested to see how much the defense improves and this game will be a good barometer for the rest of the season.

The team mailed it in the last 4 games of the 2017 season for a number of reasons. If anything, Pruitt will inject a new attitude in the program which will pay off big time the rest of the season and for seasons to come.

Fulmer and Pruitt & Staff have injected a new attitude in the program which we'll see paying off big time beginning Sept 1 and the rest of the season.

Probably not, but you just never know. I agree this game will be a barometer to see the progress throughout the year, both defensively and offensively.

The truth? WVU is not a juggernaut or college football powerhouse this season. They won 7 games last season and are being promoted for the NC and their QB for the Heisman ... AFTER winning just 7 games. Let that sink in for a little while.

We are not that bad on defense. True our numbers and record say we are, but Jone's team mailed it in starting at the end of 2016 season. They were physically soft and going through the motions and the UTAD was fine with that. That was then this is now. Pruitt's version of the Vols will not be soft, we have a UTAD that requires we win, and the 2018 Vols will be much improved even on defense. Will they lead or be a top team defensively in the SEC? Probably not, Rome was not built in a day, however, the 2018 Vols defensively will be stout enough to limit opponents from rushing for >400 yards per game like we saw most of last season. Seeing new names at corner gives me hope we will be much imroved on pass D as well.

There's a renewed since of pride for the Vols football team, they will play with a chip on their shoulder.
