Shouldn't the school have you on an off-season workout program? If I were a head coach of any sport, I would make sure my guys had an individual plan to get bigger, faster, quicker.

My experience with most schools' workout programs is to take a look at it, figure out what you might actually be tested on, and do something else that will actually be beneficial.

We always did the core lifts like power cleans, dead lifts, bench press, squats and then some secondary exercises which changed from day to day. Also, a mix of sprints and running for longevity to increase your stamina. Getting ripped is more about toning muscle and cutting down the fat, so it depends really on whether you want strength or are going for looks. You can do both at the same time but it will be pretty tough. Hope any part of this helps.

Plyometrics are certainly beneficial, but for someone without the base of strength, coordination, and proprioception, something more basic like jumping rope would be better until that foundation can be laid.

For those who are still in high school and looking for workouts, there are a few coaches and trainers on here who'd be happy to share information. I think it's safe to say that any one of us could honestly say, "If we had this information when we were younger, there's so much more we could have done."
