We saw Rodney Garner on the defensive line list earlier this week, now it's Willie Martinez turn. By my count he's ranked around 19th in the country at $540,000. Fair?

$1.9 million: Phil Parker, Iowa*

$1.4 million: Morgan Scalley, Utah*; Tim Walton, Ohio State+

$1.3 million: Travaris Robinson, Georgia+

$1 million: Corey Batoon, Missouri*; Chris Hampton, Oregon+

$900,000: Mickey Conn, Clemson+; Mike Reed, Clemson+

$875,000: Charles Kelly, Auburn+; Maurice Linguist, Alabama+

$825,000: Joe Klanderman, Kansas State*

$850,000: Donte Williams, Georgia

$800,000: Terry Joseph, Texas+; Robert Livingston, Colorado*

$755,000: Corey Raymond, LSU

$750,000: Bryan Brown, Ole Miss+; Jay Valai, Oklahoma+

$700,000: Ron English, Louisville+; Aaron Henry, Illinois*; Joe Lorig, Oregon+; Addison Williams, UCF+

$675,000: Torrian Gray, South Carolina

$670,000: Evan Cooper, Nebraska

No more excuses for Banks (safeties) or Martinez (CBs) after this year. Good Dline for pressure, good LBs for protecting the middle, improved athleticism in the secondary. If we rank poorly in passing defense again this year, it’s hard to avoid looking at scheme or coaching.

This better be his last year if the results keep being the same. There's literally no reason he can't coach anyone to turn to look for the ball. He's not a good coach, have a feeling everyone finally believes it after this year

Oh boy this again… Biggest myth on Volnation. This isn’t the end-all-be-all to coaching DBs.

If you turn your head and the ball isn’t there you get scored on every time.

Not if you’re in proper phase.

With that said, all DB coaches teach this nonsense now of not turning around but to play the ball but their eyes.

Yep. On deep balls in the NFL, most are taught to wait for the WR to initiate a catching motion, then rake the arms of the WR, making a catch nearly impossible. If the CB sees the ball and can't make a play because his eyes are in the sky, not much he can do at that point.

Yeah coaching doesn’t matter right? Coaching the basics doesn’t matter. Our CBs have been bad ever since WM showed up. Sorry but that’s a fact.

I’m not defending nor bashing CWM but he is not nearly as bad as some of yall are acting… I think he is compensated fairly for what he has done… CB play has been inconsistent but not all bad… Hadden was on pace for a monster year, alontae Taylor, went in the second round, Theo Jackson had an all sec type year at star… yall act like he walked into an ideal situation… I agree with most that db play needs to be better but I like the continuity on the staff and I’m glad he wasn’t fired… this is definitely the contract year though young athletic bodies all recruited by the current staff in year 4 I expect better play and if not we can move on knowing the db room is better than when WM got here…

Who would the board want as CWM"s replacement when he retires?

Raymond from LSU would be good for recruiting in Louisiana and Texas.

If you're coached where to be you'll rarely be scored on. The biggest myth on this site is that Martinez is a good coach is absolutely laughable.

It’s astounding to see so many go to lengths to defend Martinez. There is a reason why his contract wasn’t renewed quickly and why he makes so little.
