Heupel along with Hooker, Tillman and Jackson talk about MCB.
Highlights:
  • IMHO, anyone that thinks these games are meaningless to the players should watch this PC...the loss really hurt.
  • Heupel is proud of the effort, love the team and their competitiveness. Need to execute some things better.
  • Jackson summarizes the year with the word “growth”.
  • Tillman is obviously appreciative of the staff and teammates.
  • Jackson apparently played some corner this game (I missed that).
  • Heupel says it’s on him that they didn’t put McGrath in a better position to kick a winning FG.
  • Heupel’s response to question makes it clear he thought that Tillman should have gotten the PI.
  • Heupel says they need to take care of business, can’t control yellow flags.
  • Referees apparently told Heupel the rules needed to change to address flopping.
This is an impressive group of guys...going to miss Jackson.

Our coach has class. You can tell that EVERYONE at the table was PIZZED but they made no excuses. We were robbed. I told one of my buddies during the 3rd quarter if we were not way ahead at the end the refs would do everything, they can do to help Purdue. Steve Wonder could see we were robbed. SMDH

Coach Hype is a likeable dude,I really hope he survives and figures this thing out.Last night sucked and we've hashed that one out at naseuem, but time to move on and let's get this thing rocking next year.Although I wouldn't have minded seeing him Kung Fu Judo Chop one of those sh*t refs

Can’t really fault anyone on the UT side for the loss and it does no good to criticize the refs. The one thing that needs addressed off-season is the defense. 45 points should be enough to give you a win. Period. We need some serious upgrades in the bodies on the defensive side of the ball. All season we have let quarterbacks eat us alive either with their feet or in the passing game. We have to be able to generate a fearsome pressure package and we have to be able to pancake a QB If he takes off running.
Coach called the right plays to get us scores. We just never were able to get a stop on D when we had to

I only have positive comments regarding this team, this year, this coach, and this University. I agree with all the quotes CJH made in the OP. Looking forward to a bright future for UT football. As in everything I have ever been involved in since graduating from UT, there are areas for improvement. First and foremost are the rules regarding officiating. Those are all judgement calls folks and those refs yesterday applied poor judgement. Given the technology today and the impact of that HUGE bad call at the end, improvement is essential or sports are just a pre-ordained winner before the contest starts. When you go down for injury, you are out a FULL QUARTER of the ball game period! Flops become costly. If you hit someone and they are injured and have to go out of the game, i.e. targeting, you go out of the game til they can come back. The object is to tackle or stop someone, not send them to the hospital or end their career. We need a total REDO of our secondary and pass rush. We just could not get pressure nor could we stop pretty much every pass except a couple interceptions. Depth across both lines critical and a replacement for Hooker because he is amazing and we have seen what UT football is without amazing QB play. Those are the big improvement areas I see. Again, love these Vols! Looking forward to Basketball and Baseball. GBO! VFL!

He needs to get kicked out a game raising hell on the refs!
I disagree. No reason to give himself a bad name criticizing the refs and have even more calls go against him. It helps us if the refs “like” Coach. Heupel should play Good Cop, honest but not vindictive. It is AD Danny White’s job to go all medieval on the refs and take the heat instead of the Coach.
White should let it be known to MCB (via back channels initially) that unless an apology is forthcoming shortly that he will publicly announce that Tennessee will accept no future bids from this bowl during his Tenure at UT. Give them a chance to do the right thing and slam them publicly if they don’t
