I’m @ lunch listening to 104.5 zone as they interview Chris Phillips and the LSU job. He said there are rumors that Heup is on the LSU list and LSU is on Heup’s short list of other college jobs.

He then stated TN fans don’t give Heup the credit he deserves, instead complaining about not making playoffs. And, TN is not a perennial playoff team yet a 3-4 loss team.

When asked he said TN is not a top six destination for head coaches. He said we would fall in top half. He also said he wouldn’t include Florida and unsure about aTm.

Surely Heup won’t get an offer but he was correct about Napier and Kelley, too, losing his job and the fact LSU trying to find just cause. He said Heup would listen to LSU.

I don’t see it but I am blinded by orange glasses- esp. when he said LSU is top six job - not TN.

Ohio state, Bama, UGA, LSU, Texas, USC, Oregon, and I think Notre Dame were his top coaching destinations.

Thoughts?

Edit- I listened to the interview again. Phillips said he’s heard Heup would entertain leaving TN and definitely listen to LSU. Plus, LSU admin is confident Heup would leave TN for LSU if offered the job. The outside noise by the minority of our fan base is annoying as apparently Heup hears the 💩. Could you imagine him leaving for LSU and taking Brandon Faizon w/ him?

Youn Don’t have to read post. It’s a simple comment about a reputable reporter/journalist who reports SEC news. 104.5 plays the interview a second time so…. I found it interesting as I thought most outsiders didn’t think much of Heup. Plus comments about TN as a destination for other coaches.

If Heupel is feeling pressure at Tennessee he won’t last in Baton Rouge. They don’t pay buyouts.
I agree. I don’t think it will happen. But, I never thought USC would offer Lane. LSU had issues and now trying to find just cause not to pay Kelley his buyout. But wha tif everyone says no? Lane is a top chive for many but he may accept a huge pay raise and stay @ the Grove.

I still don’t get why national media thinks TN fans are running Heup out of town. It’s 5% of fan base and others trolling.

Weird that the sports press seemed to telegraph this situation by chumming the waters when saying UT fans are ungrateful and want Heupel gone.
There were some misanthropes making noise about Tim Banks on the forum; same as every week. But the noise on this forum was weak. That makes me think the fanbase in general was frustrated, but not against Heupel, except for the OU gamec criticisms.

I think Heupel would go only if Danny White were to go as well. Between White and Plowman, I think the quality of administration and quality of life in Knoxville have to account for a lot, and I think we can match any competitive offers. No state income tax is nice as well.

I recall two to three years ago. The OSU fans calling for Days head. The minority and uninformed fans, sometimes is annoying.

If Heupel leaves it's because of the talent and ease of recruiting at LSU. He probably does think to himself "Man what would my offense have put up with that 2019 LSU team". Our program is in a much better spot if he were to leave compared to past coaching searches. It is what it is.

I think it's only a remote possibility Heupel would leave. That being said, there would be only one guy I would go after and I am not going to mention his name. One of my buddies that posts here may run me down on my afternoon walk with the dog 😯

You could argue LSU is the best job in the country, but is it really with all the embarrassing stuff with the governor of that state running his mouth and saying stupid **** about? Do they have the admin in place to succeed? That’s another big factor, how loyal to Danny White is Josh? Danny made him a HC for the first time and then a P4 HC for the first time. I think they’re pretty tight. Plus Josh is just now really getting to recruit without negative recruiting of “the ncaa is gonna hammer them” blah blah blah and he’s put together his best class here yet. He’s put a lot of work in to build this thing, and when it’s built it’s just as good of a job as any other program. So maybe LSU would be one of the couple schools that could get him to listen, but I doubt it’s as “no brainer” or a move as the person is seeming to make it out to be.

If Heup thinks the Cajuns would be any easier on him then he’s in for a rude awakening!!!! And, if he’s as thin skinned as described above then thanks for being here and stabilizing our team but don’t let the door hit you on the way out! So yes I could imagine him leaving and will be fine with it! He’s got two years here to get his staff upgraded or he will be fired anyway. My personal take is he’s a petty sissy and needed a tough guy like Golesh to balance out the discipline at the staff and player level. It’s obvious!

He deserves any of the valid criticisms he has received this far!!!! He doesn’t deserve the irrational hostility some clowns have done though!

Phillips is wrong about TN fans not giving Heupel credit though!
