I always knew the legend of Hershel Walker. Knew he was good.
But, my goodness, he was by far the best Running back of all time..in college anyways.
just saw the special they ran about him on ESPN.

Wish Tennessee could get an impact running back like that.
Without Walker, Georgia was nothing.

Jamal Lewis was close before he got hurt.
and if Fulmer would have played him earlier to start his career.
Henry, we was a tough guy to tackle and is the career leader in yards I believe, but he didn't change the game like Walker did.

Where is that great back at that can do that for UT?

Has there been any other backs, that for 3 years, carried their team to such great heights as Walker.
Not just stats, but also wins. They won or competed for national championships for 3 straight years..amazing.

I know we all remember the Walker vs. Bates moment.
I'm sure someone can bring that video up..:eek:lol:

Walker was the best I have ever saw and Chuck Webb was the closest to him that played at UT!

Best I ever saw at Tennessee was Chuck Webb with honorable mentions going to Lewis, Henry, Cobb and maybe even Garner.

Webb and Walker were very similar type backs. If not for the turf tearing up his ACL, Webb was going tout up some insane numbers.

Yeah Bush was a game changer.
Agree with Sanders.
You know, I had high hope for Foster after his freshman year.
Also, love that angry bird!

Ou yeah, the Cobb-Webb. The was a good duo.
Great names too. Used to have a t shirt that had both of them on it.
Remember Garner's run vs Bama.

In college I would agree. Even though he wasn't a vol he was great inspiration. I think does 1000's of pushup and sit-ups a day, and ate one meal a day.

Garner is very underrated. I think he averaged around 6.5 ypc, more then any other back at UT.

Yes, Hershel was/is the greatest RB of all time in college football. Even in the NFL he had over 13,000 all purpose yards and another 5,000 return yards. Add on 5500 yards rushing from the USFL in rushing and 1500 in receiving. If it was the pro football hall of fame, he would be a first vote ballot.

Nobody ever changed college football and the NFL like he did. He started the recruiting hype b/c everyone wanted the next Herschel and still to this day HE is the reason juniors are allowed to enter the NFL draft.

Pretty amazing for a guy that still hasn't lifted weights and just happed to be the only guy to ever be in the Heisman top 3 all his years, 3 time all american, first freshman to ever be 1st team. How many guys have been all american, all pro, been in the olympics, and mma as well. Not even half the story...legend among himself...and what makes me so sad? HE ALMOST WAS A VOL...

Agree with Walker best in SEC and Webb best at UT. There was an excitement and anticipation that is hard to describe every time you saw Herschel get the ball. Unlike any player I remember. Not even Bo IMO.

Webb is such a tragedy. He was unstoppable, also. I believe he would have won the Heisman if he hadn't gotten hurt. He was that dominant. I don't believe he was a pre-season candidate for the Heisman, but he would have worked his way into contention. The most dominant RB ever at UT including Jamal. JMO.

Would have loved to see what Bo's career numbers would have looked like in football and baseball if he didn't get hurt.

Since someone mentioned the NFL I will go on record as saying Jim Brown was the greatest but that was before my time. Earl Cambell was the best I ever saw but Bum Phillips wore him out and cut his career short.

herschel is the only player i can think of who was arguably the best player in college football the moment he stepped on campus as a freshman.

i don't know if that can be said of any other player.

he legitimately could have won the heisman all 3 of his years at georgia.

Bo Jackson. Shame about his injury. Hard to believe da Raiders had both him and Marcus Allen in the backfield at one time. Too bad they had Jay Schroeder at QB.

Rarely do I agree with you, but here, I do. I think he could have easily been the first, and to this day--the only--RB to win 3 Heismans.

LOL No kidding. I know they're pronounced differently, but every time I see his name spelled, I think of this guy:

Not sure if I will ever see a more gifted back than Walker in college, Webb was going to be a beast but not sure if he could match Walker.
