Here's why it's tough for us....

This class we're putting together makes me wonder why we took so many commits early. I'd say it won't look much like it currently does by signing day. You just hope you don't burn bridges with asking some guys to look around, hopefully not too late in the process..

Pulling Smith, Akers and Wade is a long shot. A big time long shot. I think its goint to take a playoff appearence by the Vols to have a shot at those guys. I think Smith is all Vol unless something catastrophic happens. I think we have about a 75% chance at Wade. Continued wins will help immensely imo. Pitts schedule doesnt really line up well for them to get more than say 6 wins. Penn states either.

Akers is going to be a really tough pull. I think there is a chance we can get him but it seems small.

I thought after the UF game we could get a commitment. When we didnt that was cool. But after beating Georgia, I really figured we would have someone commit. I know the game just happened but schools like Michigan and Alabama just got huge commitments.

Wade's family has stated distance is not a factor, I think he's all Vol. Shoop was recruiting the kid while he was at Penn State so there's been a good relationship building for quite some time. Akers will be tough, but if one of Hurd or Kamara declare early as expected, I believe he'll be ours.

Did you check out the prospects georgia brought in for yesterday's game? There were about 20, maybe more. I think every one of them was a four star, with maybe one or two 5 stars--and I think every one of them with the exception of one, maybe two, was from georgia! They had one prospect from florida, but that might have been it. So nearly 20 4 stars from their own state. Florida of course is the same. This is our recruiting challenge every year--having to pull lots of guys from out of state, which we well know. It's why we really need one of the best recruiting coaches and staffs in the nation. And, Jones, to his credit, is a good recruiter.

Yep.

Grass is green.

Water is wet.

And with that said, what has UGA done with all of that talent in their backyard?

It is a tough pill to swallow when we're finally seeing some on the field success but it doesn't seem to be paying off in recruiting. We got used to seeing a couple of 5* and a passel of 4* in each of Fulmer's classes (even though too many of them were busts and/or bad characters). When we were getting our lunch handed to us under Dooley, I could understand why few elite prospects looked at us unless they were legacies or diehard lifelong Vol fans. It is perplexing. Hopefully, we close out strong.

All the more reason to respect CBJ's ability to find those diamonds in the rough and develop 3* to 5*s......not sure the point of this post......but ok, tells us something we don't already know. UT has always struggled pulling those players out of any state, but Jones has done a great job of getting enough to put together gritty, chip on their shoulder and they posses the ability to think as well........I am ok with were we are on recruiting. By the way, what do you think went through those recruits minds when JJ brought that pass down?

Man, they got lucky
