So, we're just wrapping up my son's birthday party, over the weekend, with a Pirate theme. You won't believe this, but a green bird flies from a tree and lights on my buddy's hand. Obviously domesticated, and beautiful. He looks a little stressed and is missing some feathers, so we take him in.

Long story short, we are now the proud adoptive parents of an abandoned Mustached Parakeet. He is very sweet and loves to nuzzle on your neck. We hit Petsmart and got a cage and some toys for him to chew on, in effort to keep him from nipping himself. We're going to try to take him to the avian Vet tomorrow to get him checked out.

Anyway, how ironic is it that while I'm dressed in pirate attire, a Parrot joins our home? Very cool, especially if you believe in "strange coincidence."

. . . .but way cool. :pirate:

Absolutely. Train him to perch on your shoulder.

I met a pirate at a rest stop in the gap on my way to Knoxville. A pirate in the mountains, strange.

Pirate in the mountains, strange. Pirate at a rest area, not so much.

He does so already. He loves attention and is very affectionate. He likes to nudge against your neck and pull on your collar while making kissing sounds. I can't wait to see what he looks like once nursed back to health.

Can you tell I've fallen for our new pet?

We were standing in our driveway one day getting ready to get in the car when a Parakeet landed on my wife's shoulder. We kept it for several years.

Another time, my nephew, who took a job in Brazil sent us this beautiful multicolored bird for Christmas. He called to see if we got it, and I said yes we did. He asked was it ok? I said yes it was delicious, mom cooked it up real nice. He blew a gasket saying something about it being very rare and expensive. Then he said it could talk in three languages. I said, well he should have said something!

There are just some things in life that can never be explained. Cool story.

Well, we took "Sunny" to the vet today, and he checked out fine. The vet said he probably was just a little "ruffled" from being out in the wild for a bit. He had no evidence of mites or other problems.

We've had him out most of the evening and are having fun adjusting to our newest family member. I'll post pics once he gets acclimated and his new feathers grow in.

Reminds me of event that happened while I lived in China. My work colleague had this beautiful Chinese girlfriend that he was dazzled by. For Christmas he gave her a cute puppy. She and her family had the puppy for dinner during the following Chinese New Year....
