Here is the thing about Ohio

.I think it was a makeup for the call against SDSU on the lose ball...

a makeup call? The ref doesn't blow the whistle and UT has a layup on that play. Instead the ref made UT earn the 2pts at the FT line. SDS should have been glad it was blown dead

This team frustrates me with their Rec League attitude toward offense sometimes. If they will play focused ball for 40 minutes then we should win by at least the same margin the football team did back in September.

That, my friend, is a great question. One I asked myself last night. And couldn't answer then, either. lol

The only thing I could come up with is playing at 10 PM has got to screw your internal clock. I know if go to the gym after 9 PM my energy levels are way down. Then again they have looked that way at 3 in the afternoon too.

WHY IN THE %&!& DIDN'T WE FOUL HIM AT HALFCOURT BEFORE THEY HAD A CHANCE TO SHOOT A 3?

It amazes me this isn't practiced more. And yes I realize it's all caps cause it pisses me off. They would get freethrows and would never have a chance at a 3 unless they heave it from half court! Thats bad coaching.

All depends on if Ohio can continue shooting 57% from beyond the 3 pt line. It's doubtful, but that's why you play the game.

High seeded teams who play out of their minds in the first round of the tournament rarely duplicate their success nor make it out of the second round. History is on our side and we have a talent advantage, but we still need to apply pressure on the perimeter. We are usually pretty solid here, so I hope that continues and we don't have overconfident guys tomorrow afternoon expecting an easy win.

Agreed. I made that exact point to someone last night. Except where you said "layup" I went with "360 tomahawk dunk".

NC State won the NC by doing what Ohio did yesterday for the whole tournament. Shooting lights out. So it does happen.

Ohio's guards sort of remind me of Belmont's last year. And they gave us fits in Knoxville. Hopefully we can make them shoot over us and just rebound the misses. The shots SDSU missed behind the arc last night will be made by Ohio.

But last year we regularly made opposing guards look all-world. Remember Meeks? This year, we have the top three point defense in the conference. Our defense this year is not even remotely comparable to our defense last year.

Also, of the four teams in Providence yesterday, UT had the most/loudest fans. The crowd won't go to the underdog unless the underdog is still in the game late, so we need to put them away early and keep our own section LOUD. I'll be there again.

7-9 in the MAC is irrelevant. They have played well enough lately to storm through their conference tournament and beat the snot out of Georgetown. Obviously something changed. All the stuff that happened before a couple of weeks ago no longer matters.

I just wish a hot chick from Ohio would come on here and give input. Sparkster gave good insight and was easy to look at from SDSU. Where are the Ohio women at? LOL

This.

UT better show up to play.

We looked terrible on both sides of the court within a 3 foot radius of the basket. We have got to learn how to finish that close. On defense, our "help" would leave a guy wide open for either an easy put back or an easy dish for San Diego. On offense, we just threw it in the air instead of banking it in or even going aggressive for an attempted dunk. Figure this out and we'll already be in much better shape.

U cannot seriously be commenting on our defense. We just held a team that averages 71 points a game to 59..

And Ohio will be lucky to score 65 on UT. Trust me, Defense is the bright spot on this team. Stats don't lie.

We do tend to foul more than needed but offense has been biggest problem all year....JMO

Agree completely. I'd be shocked if Ohio gets more than 70 against us.

One interesting point is the OHIO head coach John Groce was an assistant under Thad Matta, so he has prepared for a Pearl team 3 times now.

I think this will end up being a very good game. Hopefully Cooper and Co. and can hit a few more threes than UT.

They are the 89th best three point percentage team in the NCAA. Yesterday they played the 94th best three point defense team. That with March Madness equals upset.

Saturday Ohio gets the #11 three point defensive team in the nation and the top team in the MidWest region in that regard.

Ohio is 189 in scoring defense. Vols are 88.

We are a better rebounding team.

While Ohio has some size (van Kempen is 6'10) and some athleticism (Washington is a very athletic 6'8 225 power forward) and quality guard play with Bassett and Cooper, the Vols have much more depth, much more length (more than Gtown), more athleticism in the post, and should be very fresh in the 2nd half on Saturdy.

The Vols should win this game by double-digits, but we better get some fans to Providence. Because the one thing Ohio will have over us is the crowd in their corner.

If the Vols don't win this game, Pearl should be fired, the program disbanned, and the Lady Vols allowed to represent UT in both Men's and Women's basketball.

Didn't really turn out that way.

Tennessee was up by double digits most of the second half.
