On GameDay, Herbstreit just said that VolNation "have one foot in, and one foot out" on our devotion to the team. He said the first time something adverse happens in today's game, the fan base will be "out of it, neutralized."

Seems like he's been reading VolNation.com.

We gotta prove him wrong today, fellow Volunteers. No matter what, no matter how dire things are looking, we gotta be loud and devoted in our support for our lads on the field.

Go Vols!

I read that as saying that Vols fans are not yet 100 pct buying in to the current regime.

Absolutely NOTHING to at all to do with devotion to the team. Absolutely EVERYTHING to do with apprehension about Jones on game day in big games.

He is 100% correct. In the past, when adversity hits, the fans quit.

The fans have to be loud and proud for 60 minutes. They have to understand how much impact the noise has on the opposing team.

That has to be it. What else could he be talking about? Did our fan base look like we had 'one foot out' two weeks ago when we packed Bristol Motor Speedway? Geez.

Actually, think he meant it both ways.

The unspoken theme was that today's game is a turning point in support for Butch: either all-in if we win, or jumping off the bandwagon if we lose.

But what he was overtly talking about was today's game and the fans in the stands. He explicitly said that the fans in the stands will be neutralized and that the players will have to do it all on their own.

And that latter is what we can't allow to happen. We have to be there for the lads, no matter how things are looking, all the way to the final gun. Prove Herbsteit wrong.

What does he think is gonna happen? Has he not been watching the past 10 years? We are frustrated and ready to compete for championships!!! If Butch and Co. and prove themselves today and take care of business then the fanbase will start to believe in them. What have they done so far? Today is Butch's day to prove himself and put his self on top!!! Just win!

I agree with this.
A lot of people just try to justify the behavior. If you want Jones fired, bombard the ad with demands. Doing anything that affects the game or the players just because you're mad, is childish.
I see a lot of responses showing the right to be displeased with the coach, but not one explaining why it makes any sense to do it when the players are still trying to win during the game.

Is the man wrong?

Not at all. Fans get on here and cry and say negative things and are saying this is Butches last straw, etc.

Everyone reads this stuff. The fact of the matter is.. Butch ain't going no where and he knows it you can tell the way he has acted.

All it's going to take is a quick Florida touchdown and Neyland will be quite and it will completely remove the Home field advantage.

Bring it for 60 minutes and back these guys... if we lose, this board is going to be full of "fire butch" well you know he's not going anywhere and at the end of the year I'll scratch my head with you all and we can all wonder why nobody wants to come play in Knoxville.

1 herbie can suck it!

2 no fanbase in the country has supported bad teams like Vol fans have. If anything he should call out Ut's administration and Ad dept for being half in on its support of the program.

3 Oklahoma players disagree wih him

4 Did I say herbie can suck it?

Of course not. Why should fans quitting be a surprise if Butch loses his 4th in a row against the Gators now that he has highly recruited, talented, and hyped team? All the earlier excuses about lack of talent, Dooley's players don't fit his system, lack of experience and too much youth - all of that's gone and it's put up or shut up time for Butch.

Well we lost in ridiculous fashion to Florida last year, and I seem to remember a packed house at the Georgia game soon after. I don't think our fans are less devoted than any other. If Michigan blows a game and then doesn't sell out, I bet Herbstreit doesn't call them out...

Oh trust me the same idiots that calling out our fans and pretend they are vol fan legends in their own mind are the same ones that said dools needed more time. They are amazing at inventing new excuses.
