There is an article on Scout about how the new receivers, I think O'Neal and Vinson, specifically, are now flourishing with the smaller playbook, menu system. I can't read the article, but can someone summarize it?

i've not heard of it.I don't have a scout membership. But i heard that the menu system would be in place for the younger guys when they are in the game.It seems like a good concept, hope it works.

chieffan is right. they've pared down the play book for the new guys from 40 plays to a dozen. Cut's philosophy this year was to throw the book at the new guys to see who was smart enough to pick it up. Since we really need some help at WR he put them through the ringer. With Cal a week away and with only one of the new guys getting it, he's cut the package down. This will allow fewer mistakes and greater focus/concentration and fewer drops.

There is not much detail explaining exactly what the menuing system is. It does say that audibles are drastically reduced, and that Vinson and Oneal are both now performing at higher levels due to the pairing down of the playbook.

which tells me the no huddle offense is probably never going to happen

I think having these two on the field will be much more to our advantage than the no huddle offence. Maybe on occasion throw it in there but to be honest these two guys are game breakers and Meachem showed us last year what one gamebreaker can do.

It didn't seem like we were planning on using the no huddle much at Cal anyway...and won't use it much against USM. We'll get a clear indication of whether or not we will use it and to what extent on the 15th. I think that we will see it, but maybe I am naive.

That doesn't restrict the use of the no huddle. Ainge has to set it up but if worse comes to worst... you can call the pass play and have them go through with the route even if he audibles to a run play. They'll either run them off or set them up for play action.

I don't know why UT doesn't do more of this type of decoy anyway.

That is who he was referring to, but I think that Jones was certainly getting it as well. His injury is slowing him up, but I don't think the coaches had anything to say negatively about him.

Yeah I know - he'd be right up near Moore if not for the hamstring.

It will happen. I've read too much about them implementing it to believe the contrary. Cutcliffe will have his seasoned guys in there most of the time when he runs it, but it will be done. They aren't gonna run it 70-80% of the time like some of you are drawing the conclusion towards. They will run it 20-30% of the time and mostly 2nd and 4th quarter scenarios anyways. The no-huddle is a great offense to keep the defense off guard, but if you run it too much you will burn your team out even quicker and defeat the purpose you run it in the first place. Sometimes I think some of the members here know more about our team than the coaches and players do. Having an opinion is great, but trying to make yourself look bigger than you actually are is shameful. I put all the decision making powers in the hands of the professionals up there at UT and believe 110% that this year is gonna be a great year with a birth in the SECCG if all goes well.

gatorhator, the guy in your avatar said they'll run it 100%. We'll have to see.

I think he means that there will be a 100% chance you will see it other than a 2-3 minute drill scenario. At least that's what I get out of it. If they run it 100% of the time on the field offensively, then you will see TOO many mistake IMO. It will get better as the year wears on but will still be a big factor in the first 3 games of the season.

According to GoVolsXtra and UT Sports the no-huddle will be used sparingly until the Fl game were it will be used more than 40-50% of the time. This is due to the young D of the Gators.Bassman you are right Jones is going to be a player and a half when he heals. Some of you may have already seen his high lites on Scout if not go check them out, looks like a Barry Sanders type player.

You're just now coming to that conclusion?

well i had about as much faith in it as I had in the option CPF talked about for 4 offseasons in a row. no, i never really believed it was going to happen with these receivers, this new info just confirms it.
