I've been reading VN for years. I think most of you guys an gals know your stuff when it comes to sports. I would like nothing more then to jump on the Kiffin bandwagon, but from what i've been able to read on the guy, just seems to be a big roll of the dice. Then I come on here, an most love him as the HC, and I do respect you guys an gals alot. What am I missing? I was fully with you all that Fulmer needed to go, and I still stand by that. I just can't understand the whole Kiffin thing. If you can help thanks, if you can't maybe it's cause im to dumb to see it. I just love the Vols to much to want to roll the dice with them.

A thousand other threads discuss this a million other times
And yet if Kiffen turns out to be a HC version of Clawson no one will see it coming. I've seen about a dozen times this question asked phrased a half-dozen ways and not once have I read a response that gives me real hope he does know what he's doing. When this questions asked you get about 2 pages of jokes, or outright remarks like yours insinuating just because you've seen this topic discussed too much no one else has the right to bring up the subject. Gawd I hope he is successful cause if the Clawson meltdown was bad(aggrivated by that Oline coach idiot Adkins) you ain't seen nothin yet if Kiffin can't deliver.

I think if the Kiffin questions were always asked the way the above posts are framed, you'd see a lot less of the bashing. For some reason, a lot of the anti-Kiffin posts are pure doom and gloom and are something akin to the jerk that shows up to a wedding talking a little too loudly saying "They'll be divorced in a year!"

I think about it like this, Weis was an NFL genius and everyone at ND was drooling when he arrived at South Bend. Now they want him to leave. Everyone said Meyer's spread offense wouldn't work in the SEC. The SEC is too fast. Well, his record speaks for itself. You are right it is a roll of the dice, that is why I hope we keep his contract performance based and do not get locked into a huge buyout. Nobody has the crystal ball on Kiffin, only time will tell.

Ditto. They'll be throwing him under the bus so fast it'll make your head spin. Better to have the devil you do know than the one you don't - as was said, seems like the roll of the dice. I guess with Monte coming that closes the door on Chavis, which is sad. He is a good defensive coach. If our offense had been better, this could have been a REALLY good year with the defense we had.

I post that because both could happen. He could fail. He could greatly succeed. Both sides have been adequately represented in other threads and if people can't see that then there is no help for them. A new thread is not going to do it

I think that's the position most sane fans are taking. In the end, the X's and O's are secondary in college football to recruiting and leadership.

I did just read a post were Kiffin is now hiring his brother in law from USC as QB coach. I do not like what I am seeing with the nepotism trend. You think he will fire/replace his brother in law or father if they do not perform at their positions.....Not! I think Hamilton needs to weigh in on this.

Well, I was just starting to feel better about what you said, and the way you put it in your first reply, then you hit me with this. LOL, thats messed up!

I think alot of the optimism is not the fact that Kiffin is not the end all answer, but the staff that he can surround himself with. YAW YAW( Coach O, great recruiter), his dad Monte(one of the best defensive minds to ever coach the game and a lock for the HOF), Reaves from USCe(a great recruiter from all accounts) and the list could go on......

I think that most fans are excited about the positive change that is POSSIBLE. If these coaches do decide to join Kiffin at UT then the rest of the SEC had better watch out, there is a new era coming in UT football. I am not saying we will dominate the SEC, that would be highly unrealistic. What I am saying is that we can become competitive again, recruiting and on the field. I think that is what most of the fans want now. I know I am so tired of not being competitive, getting beat by our rivals(Fla, Ga, Bama) by 20+ year after year kinda gets old. And having to squeak out wins against Vandy, Kentucky, USCe, teams that we used to not only beat, but DOMINATE!! God how I miss those days. I am not saying we will dominate those teams like we used to, I honestly beleive there is too much parity.

What it all boils down to is UT having the OPPORTUNITY to chart a new course and maybe, just maybe, start being mentioned again with Florida, Bama (Uggggghhhhh), USCw, Texas, Oklahoma, and Ohio State's of the CFB world as a team to be feared again, a force to be reckoned with. When your team lines up across the field and and those 100,000 plus start Neyland to rockin', you know you are in for a fight to the bitter end. That is something that has been missing from UTK football for too long.
