I'm not married and have no kids, but you being in Georgia I'd probably just record it and take the kids out. It's not like there will be a lot of any UT discussion, especially at an Elmo show.

They usually have multiple shows on a couple of dates. See if she can swap them for another day or time.

go to elmo, excuse yourself to take a dump, and be back before the show is over. the kids will be mesmerized.

Record the game on your DVR and avoid all media until you watch it.

You will probably get more enjoyment out of going to that show than you will watching the game on Saturday cause its going to get ugly!

If you have Tivo or something like that then record it and watch later. Spending time with the family is time you never get back.

With that said, if you can't record you have to make her understand the importance of this game.

And yes, I am married with one son.

My Father in Law sells welding supplies in Covington. We could weld all the doors and windows shut on your house so you'd be stuck in there and have to watch the game.

There should be no hesitation or any question to be answered. You take care of your children and take them. Priorities.

Brother, not to be a "fair-weather fan," but this one's going to be painful. Set the DVR. Go to the Elmo foolishness and enjoy watching your kids laugh hysterically in overpriced seats. Then, get the kids in bed, sit down with a bottle of GJ and watch the game. You'll thank me later.

How old is your kid??? Can you make them say "I wanna Watch UT" over, and over until mom caves in???

I have done this with my 3 year old!!! Works like a charm!!!

Record the game on your DVR and avoid all media until you watch it.

This. Also be sure to block off these days with the family in the future if at all possible by mentioning it constantly during the week.

Third kid on the way here.

Go to her and say, "I was thinking about it and (I know it will be difficult to say), I WAS WRONG. I can just record the game and watch it when we get back from ELMO."

Dude, this will go over very well, you can fast forward through commercials, AND SHE WILL be amazed. It is SO worth it to not only go but to admit you weren't thinking correctly.

I am a Family Pastor at a large church and I do family/marriage counseling ALL THE TIME.

I am speaking from a point of knowledge here.

You're Welcome.

I need to know how old these kids are before I answer seriously. I'm all for family, but I'd have a hard time with this one.

Explain to the kids that you will watch the Vols game, and that if they knew what was good for them, they will too. And wife too. (Is this too harsh??)
