...should Mahoney get a reprieve after this season, considering the abysmal play of his unit this year? It's so bad, it's pulling an otherwise tough SEC team into the gutter with it.

I've never seen worse OL play in my life...from any team. It's a jail break on every pass play.

I don't see any OL in the '15 class that are going to play next year. Gotta wait on experience and strength to kick in with the guys we are playing.

At this point, I don't know why Butch won't take up Downs on his offer to block for him. Downs said he knew he didn't have good hands for an end, but would be glad to block. He has the size and he couldn't much more intimidated at playing OT as anyone else out there. We need willing volunteers. Maybe our defensive linemen can volunteer to play both ways like old one platoon football days of the 50s.

Youth and inexperience isn't the main problem with our O-line. At least two starters aren't SEC-caliber. They should never have seen the field at UT. The lack of talent will be recruited over in time... but then we will be dealing with youth and inexperience.

If there is not dramatic change in their play by years end I think Butch has to make a change.

He's 100% responsible for having "Chicken Shi!te," then.

4* - Austin Sanders (Bench)
4* - Dontavius Blair (Bench)

Instead, he's playing two 3* OL that are true freshman. One was recruited as a DT and converted toward the end of fall camp.

It's THEIR job to either recruit chickens, rather than chicken shiite, or develop chicklings into chickens.

That is, unless we flip Richmond.

Ya... That ain't happening. I just don't get why we haven't been able to land many oline as good of a recruiter as Butch is. Next year however we should be a lot more ready with just the guys we already have. Thomas, Robertson, mosley Wiseman, Crowder, kyberson. Not sure what we have in Blair. Why can't he find the field?

I agree.

The good thing about youth is it should get better if its being properly coach.
This group has a ceiling even if its low but the bar shouldnt be down as the season goes on.

Would not hold my breath. He showed up at Chattanooga and look at Ole Miss season.

But it was an unofficial and he has said that he plans to return for an OV in January which a t least gives us a chance. However, we need to show some signs of life next week on offense. If we take a shutout next week (very possible) he may not give us another look.

Are those 2 the only 2 college football players who didn't pan out halfway through their first year?

Have they played this year? If not Butch could be trying to RS them so that they can develop and become part of the best oline in the nation in 2 years, having 2 or 3 5th year seniors on the oline would be dangerous!
Also consider he will have 2 or 3 more years to add depth on the oline and steadily dominate the competition and allow Hurd to become better and play for a special trophy his senior year! I'm just looking ahead, all I can do.
Go Vols.

Any word on all the visits last week? Sucked losing to Florida, but those kids had to love the atmosphere with CheckerNeyland

I feel that a fire should be lite under him to fix this glaring problem, THAN half way through next season if we continue to have this issue, I shall remain quite when VN starts calling for the guillotine

Not Mahoney fault. He is playing what was here when he got the job. Dooley did a p?ss poor job recruiting O-linemen. When you have to replace the entire O-line from the year before. That's bad recruiting. The good news is with Butch in charge it will not happen again. And you people who think we can flip Richmond from Ole Miss. Forget it. Not going to happen. He is close to home and Ole Miss is playing lights out.
