He used to fly the president around the world. Now, he's a key cog in Tennessee's new recruiting operation.

New Tennessee director of scouting Brandon Lawson, a Knoxville native, was a Marine and climbed his way to a crew chief on Marine One. I wrote about that and his road into college football. Think fans will enjoy this piece.

See the full story here.

“The role he played with me in flying the president around the planet? Less than 1 percent of Marines his age have been able to do that,” L’Heureux said. “That devotion to mission, that unwavering integrity, I think fans of Tennessee should take stock in that. There’s no doubt in my mind that he’s bringing that ethos to this particular job, the same ethos that he brought to the job when he worked for me. And that is rare.

“I don’t care if you’re making ice cream cones or you’re recruiting for a top-tier collegiate football team, when you look in the mirror and you’ve got that self-assurance that you’ve done it right, and that you can stand on that with a level of integrity that he has? Then anybody that would be a fan of that program should feel glad that he is part of that program.”

I don't know if the NCAA would do that, but we have had some serious anti-athletic nimrods within the UT admin that rat on our athletic programs or at the very least don't support them when all of our competitors do whatever is necessary to keep problems in house.

What?? Pruitt needed to leave 2 years ago!

Everyone is glad somebody ratted on him. Well most of us anyhow.

One thing's for sure: This is a guy who is used to doing everything--EVERYTHING--by the book, anticipating the unexpected, and making sure the rest of his team are doing their jobs.

Guess that was three things.

A little lagniappe for all the VFLs.
Compliance or death. I like it. 😎

As a general rule in life, people are less likely to rat on you if you aren't a raging ****head.

Anyone ever met the fine folks who stand outside of AF One and shoot deathrays from every orifice? Really though, those dudes are scary. We used to drag crap out to AF One when it was on base and you could tell those steely s.o.b.s were cataloging ten different ways to part you of body and soul if you screwed around that bird.

I suppose the crew with Marine One is the same way.

Closest I've come is meeting a guy who used to be head of security for NASA astronauts. We were on a cruise together a couple years ago, and he certainly had some cool stories and information!
