HBO's "Game of Thrones"

I'm 1/2 way through Book 4 and it looks like it would be tough to do on HBO - maybe it would just be highly condensed. It's all over the dang place.

I have read all the books but my wife has not. It is so hard not to spoil stuff for her when we are watching.

This X 100. After about the tenth time I said "That didn't happen in the book" or some iteration of that comment, she just turned to me and said STFU. I had to relent after that. Haha. The third book is the longest (and best IMO) so I was a little disappointed in all the condensing they've already had to do. But I'm still excited to see how it plays out.

Really books 4 and 5 were the same book and GRRM's publisher didn't want to put a 1800 page book out. So he basically had to split the two in half. To do justice to the characters, he decided to just make book 4 with the complete storylines of some of the characters, and book 5 the complete storylines of the other half of characters instead of splitting them up.

I dont think its cool when you book guys talk about stuff that hasn't happened. Maybe a finished the books thread only is nigh.

:hi:

assumed it wouldn't be a problem since he is a character that wasn't included where he should be in TV version and if he does show it will be a very small part.

that said, I'll watch my comments in the future.

I ain't mad. Just sayin.
I want to take a look at the entire tree of characters, with pics, how they are connected, then start the books again. My mind strays and visually putting the pieces and relationships together first would help me focus on the books and read the story rather than trying to figure out who is who.

I didn't like the show much last night. Maybe it was a setup night.

I thought it was great. I mean obviously it was a set up episode since there are still some situations where we have no idea what's going on (theon greyjoy and his imprisonment, the brotherhood without banners and their motives, etc)

I thought it was decent - lots of setups for sure. The spare between Brianna and Jaime was entertaining; I'm surprised by its outcome.

I definitely misjudged Margret! She's playing Joffrey like a fiddle - I kept waiting for him to turn on her but he's clearly under her spell.

The actor playing the Hound is awesome - line deliveries are so serious, they are laugh inducing: "What in the seven hells are you doing with the Stark b@#^&!!!"

More deviation from the book. Most of it seems like it is to condense the story but the Theon Greyjoy stuff came out of nowhere.

Theon wasn't a major character in the books??

He's truly repulsive - did not feel sorry for him

He was definitely a major character - I'm just saying that nowhere in Book 3 (this season) and 1/2 way through Book 4 (what I've read) does the question of whether he is alive or dead get answered and the torture scene wasn't in the book.

best scene of the last episode. specially at 1:40 lol.

The last episode was average. Mostly still setting up plot lines. The Theon Greyjoy stuff is completely the work of the screenwriters, but it should be interesting to see where they go with it. The Bastard of Bolton likes to play games with people, so I can't see Theon enjoying himself too much this season.

They really are condensing a lot for the sake of the show, which I'm fine with up to a point. If they start just making stuff up liberally, then I'll be disappointed. But so far I haven't seen anything too atrocious. (BTW for you book readers, GRRM said that Strong Belwas would not be appearing in the show. Sadface. George R.R. Martin confirms a fan favorite character won't appear on Game of Thrones!)

This is pretty cool

Theon always reminded me a bit (looks) of Mick Jagger. This confirms

Wasnt he brutally tortured and flayed over time..so much so that no one could recognize him? In the books he is set free and lurks around I thought I heard. By the way this season is just half of book 3. The fourth season will be the other half.
