Tipped well, wasn't a douche, just left the sunglasses there last night when we left.

I called this morning to see if they had found them and I heard the person who pick up the phone ask my waiter if he found glasses. "Yeah, they were Ray Bans" I heard in the background. The glasses in question were Ray Bans.

I said that I'd be back after work to pick them up and she said "Oh, well, my manager has them so call back after 7 when he comes in."

I called back about 30 minutes ago and talked with the manager. He said "I put them in the lost and found last night and I don't know what happened. Now they're gone." He squeezed out "I'm sorry" a few times as well.

"So one of your employees took them?"
"Uhh... I'm sorry."

So I said I would really appreciate it if you would keep looking. Those were important to me (they're actually my GFs that I bought her for XMas).

I'm not holding my breath, but I'm still pissed.

Is there anything that I can do, besides walking away from this having learned a hard lesson?

Anyone else had a similar situation?

They owe no duty to keep it around for you. Sucks they aren't still there, but keep better hold of your belongings if they mean that much to you.

I would've told them "hold onto them, I'm coming down there right now" as soon as I realized they were missing. And gotten a name.

I left a portfolio in a Mexican restaurant. Got to my car and realized I had left it. Went right back in they said they didn't see it. Had some extremely important stuff in it. Stuff that could not be replaced.

Buy a new pair and move on.

Go back and drop a deuce on the bathroom floor. Stick a note in it that says, "whoever took my RayBans can clean this siht up." The employees know who has them.

Left my wallet at a restaurant a few years ago. Didn't realize it until I got home. I lived about an hour away. So I called them and they told me that it was found and they put it in their safe. Went back the next day to get it. Lucked out on that one.

Stalk the employees and see who arrives or leaves with RayBans on.

As a server/door person.....No. I have cleaned that up & worse & would never wish that on anyone.

I always double check to make sure I have everything before leaving the table.

*Note* Only when sober

the second part was the problem last night

it's a tough lesson to learn. it just sucks.

i'm going to make one last effort tomorrow to get in touch with everyone involved in the process to be like "stop being a d bag" but i know it's a long shot. can't hurt.

plus, they'll understand when they see the anon posts on review sites calling their establishment a collection of thieves and liars.

Get a strap. Put em on when you wakeup, take em off when you go to bed. You'll never loose them.

While this is true, it still doesn't excuse whichever employee took something that wasn't theirs. Especially an item someone was actively trying to recover. Reteraunts have meets all of the time. Not singling anyone out but I think a meeting of all of the people that worked any shift in the period of time which the glasses disappeared.

That being said. Yeah it sucks, but not a lot you can do. This is the reason, I quit wearing expensive sunglasses. Hard to keep up with them.

That same thing happened to me with a carhart coat. I left it and called the next morning an it was there. I went to pick it up the next day and it was gone.

As a former restaurant GM I would hunt down the theiving employee and fire them on the spot. Lost and found is part of customer service.

I also would have taken your # and called you back if I was able to retrieve them as well as offer some GCs for the inconvenience.

You could consider filing in small claims court if they were a significantly expensive pair of sunglasses.

Yeah I left a cheap but nice pair of sunglasses on the table at a restaurant a few years ago. Called but they claimed they never saw them. Pretty sure they would have looked cool on the little primo that busses tables there. Oh well.
