Have you ever genuinely disliked a certain Vols team?

Has there ever been a year where, for whatever reason, you just didnt like the team? I'm starting to feel that way for the first time, maybe ever as a Vols fan. Unless we start playing like a completely new team, this may be my least favorite Vol team of all time, and it's not because of the record. It's how we are playing.

Losing to Vandy in Butch's first year made the program look weak and headed in the wrong direction. The 2016 losses to South Carolina and Vandy confirmed that the ship was sinking. The Arkansas home loss was inexcusable as well. These games completely negated any positive effects from beating Fla. and GA. "Disappointed for (or in)" seems to sum it up a little better than "disliked."

Never. No way. Ever. I love the Vols and will always be happy to show my pride and watch them when they’re up or down. Stretches like this happen. I don’t let it ruin my days or life for that matter. I’ve been disappointed but I’d rather be disappointed with hope for the next game then have no game at all.

I have never disliked our Team....but will acknowledge the lack of SEC talent we've had and currently have at several positions.
We had a very good team in the 2015 season....probably the best UT team we've had since 2007--actually had the lead against Bama late in the 4th QTR...
And I absolutely hated the way CBJ and crew choked a 10-2 season into 8-4 that year.....

The lack of talent we see on the field now--I believe--is a direct effect of those losses to OK and Fla on recruiting....
Kids run on confidence... CBJ was really exposed in 2015 by those games.

This may be one of those questions that varies by age.

If you're a teen, or in your twenties, roughly the same age as the players, I can see forming particular bonds with them, or the opposite, dislike. For individual players, or for the group, the whole team.

But if you're in a different generation, there's, a separateness. College-age folks are not peers. Bonds don't form as easily. It's not as natural to have intense feelings about them (excepting relatives, of course). So emotions are more muted. Like and dislike become...less powerful, I guess. Toned way down.

And perspectives can change with age, too. Often, we see more clearly how easily people are influenced: in their development and skills, also in their beliefs and values. So we begin to look more closely at the leaders who had the influence. The blame starts to shift. Never completely; every person remains responsible for him or herself. But nonetheless, age and experience often cause our perspective to shift some of the blame--even the majority of it--on to the people who led the younger ones astray.

So if you're 16 or 25 or even 32, chances are good you might be feeling as the OP does. If you're 40 or 50 or 75, you might tend more toward thinking of the team as (partially, if not wholly) caught up in circumstance.

In the latter case, dislike wouldn't be the right emotion. More toward disappointment and regret. That's what I feel for this team.

I said it while they had success and I will say it now, I hated watching Butch's offense. Doesn't matter if it was 2016 or 17, I hated it. The hurry up and then look at the sideline. Let's race to a 3 and out. Shotgun formation from the goaline. It pissed me off to no end.

That's as close to hating a team. I did really enjoy some individual players on that offense. Dobbs, kamara, Kelly, even Hurd before he quit.

I don't like our play calling this year, but it feels like football again. I am willing to give this staff a pass on offense until we learn to block someone.

Yes...the one led (well, actually NOT led) by Dooley...with Bray @QB...that literally threw that game in Lexington. It was a pure, contrived lay down as if it was done for some bookie somewhere...but done just because MANY on that Team had more than given up...didn’t want to endure more practices or a bowl game....and they concocted a plan to end the season for good, and get Dooley fired. I HATED watching that lack of effort.

I wouldn't say I dislike a team. However I really dislike the way some players have no respect for the history of this program. I am really tired of the I/me attitude many of the players over the last few year have displayed. I guess it is a sign of the times, no history of any kind being taught by the educational systems. I have most of my life championed the statement " If you don't know where you've been, how do you know where you are going".

Disliking a Vols team, wanting to wear bags on your head at games. The losing is taking a toll on the fan base. As 82-JP said, it is disappointment, not dislike.

Go Vols!

Explain Bray scrambling for first Downs in the 3rd and 4th quarters. I don't think any player on that team mailed it in. Can't say the same for the coaches. Dooley was doomed to fail from day one. It was shocking he had so many believers on here.

Very good very "deep" post. However, the people you are really addressing are the very ones you point out and they will skip over the post . I think a big problem with being ignored with this and most post of this length, is the inability to hold most social media types attention for more than a dozen or so words. ( observed by one of the +75s you speak of)

Heh, yep. On the other hand, there are plenty of our peers up in the 40-90 range who also have very short attention spans. tl;dr is a tool for all ages. Just ask Behr. :)

Never disliked a team, but there are players in the past I wished had picked another school. Not talking about their play so much, but their issues off the field, and bad attitudes.
