Have to wonder if Dooley's loss to UK equals Fulmers loss to UCLA in 2008

The fans reaction to the UK loss this year was reminiscent of the reaction to our loss to UCLA starting the 2008 season.

The team didn't improve and actually regressed as the year went along and we weren't competitive...sound familiar?.....and a change was made.

I could see a similiar scenario next year, as far as a coaching change, if things don't improve.

Dooley's loss to UK cost him at least one year off of the 5 year rebuilding plan and rightly so IMO.

Not even close... Dooley's loss is far, far worse and the UCLA game in 2008 is when I, perhaps foolishly, thought we could do better than Fulmer.

Still think we could have, but I certainly know that we didn't.

The loss to UK was worse. Period.

I'm saying it was similiar in that the KY loss could cost Dooley his job if things don't improve, exactly the way the UCLA loss did for Fulmer when things didn't improve.

Not debating which one was worse. Although watching either was like choosing between having sex with Rosie O'Donnel or Roseanne Barr.

Exactly my point. The loss to UK has had a similiar effect on Dooley supporters. However on people that hate Dooley, it didn't matter.

UCLA's offense was nearly as bad as UK's was, and yet we made the Bruins QB look like a Heisman candidate when he dissected our secondary. We played good defense against Kentucky, but our offense was lethargic. I still believe the UCLA loss was worse, due to the fact that UK is a conference opponent, and while we had no business losing to them, it was bound to happen at some point. Not to mention that our team in 2008 was FAR better than the team this year.

It's a great point. Fulmer had earned a whole lot more forgiveness from his success than Dooley, who has earned nothing from what he's done with UT football.

It's a good angle, imo. :hi:

The '08 loss to Ucla was one of the worst losses in the past 10 years. The Kentucky loss Saturday was one of the worst losses in the past 30.

Your certainty is another man's fart in the wind.

Given the relative talent levels, 2008 UCLA may have been one of the worst coaching episodes ever.

The UK loss hurt, but something like that was bound to happen.

I would put the UK loss on par with the Memphis 96 loss.

To me, those two are the worst although the 96 loss hurt more because we had a really really good team and for some reason just didn't want to play that day.

What I'd give to bring back the second team of the 1996 Vols? Would like to have the first team, but I don't want to sound greedy.

I'm still not over that one....and probably wont be for many years after I'm dead.

I agree for the most part, but I'd say the UCLA loss was one of the worst in the last 25 without a doubt.....they sucked balls.....this loss to KY would be the worst loss in 50 years had this not been one of the worst TN teams in that same time frame.

I would say it is much worse, more in the area of losing to Wyoming.

Not much evidence at this point to support a view that Dooley is a better coach than Fulmer.

Unless, of course, you'd care to share it.

Certainty implies you know without a doubt. Kinda hard to compare the two when Fulmer took over an NFL factory and Dooley took over at arguably the roughest point in the program's history. Dooley has lost one game that he was expected to win. IMO Fulmer lost so many that he was expected to win that it made Neyland a lot less scary for our opponents. He did that with no violations looming and no attrition other than what was the norm, arguably on the shoulders of Chief and Cut.

Certanity implies you are sure if you interchange the coaches, Dooley would've done worse in Fulmer's situation and vice versa. If you are sure about that, then your certainty is about as stable as another man's fart in the wind.

To me the '96 loss to Tiger High is the worst loss in my lifetime and I'm 44......look at the roster Fulmer had....then consider how big of a dump he took in his pants that day
