Hatvol's Pre Pre Pre Preseason Hoops Top 10

1. UCLA-Third time is the charm for Ben Howland. It will be the Season of Love in Westwood.
2. UNC-Fabulously talented. The loss of Brendan Wright will be felt more than some think.
3. Memphis-This team is much more talented than Cal's '96 UMASS team that spent most of the year at #1.
4. Louisville-This will be Pitino's best team in Derby City. Their young guards are fantastic.
5. Tennessee-I'm assuming the 'AA will act like the fascists they are and deny Tyler Smith's hardship request. If I'm wrong, the Vols leapfrog Louisville.
6. Kansas-Losing Julian Wright and having Brandon Rush tear an ACL is bad. Returning Sherron Colllins, Mario Chalmers, and Darrell Arthur is very good.
7. Michigan State-Tom Izzo just keeps rolling along. Indiana will be the chic pick in the Big 10. Don't believe the hype.
8. Duke-Nolan Smith will make a world of difference on this team. Josh McRoberts leaving is addition by subtraction.
9. Syracuse-America, meet Donte Green-The new Carmelo Anthony. The Orange rebound from an off year with a vengeance.
10. Arizona-The return of Kevin O'Neill to the Wildcat staff gives a talented bunch a much overdue dose of toughness.

I agree for the most part, but I think Indiana has a great shot at crackin the top 10. With the inside game of DJ White, a solid point guard with a year of experience in Armon Basset, Kelvin Sampson hard nose defense, and the addition of a top recruiting class that consists of a couple JUCOs that can be an impact right away and of course the top 3 recruit in Eric Gordon. All this should make IU the preseason favorite to win the Big Ten.

Izzo is 10x the coach Sampson is. Indiana will be good, but Michigan St. will be better.

I think Tubby's issue was finding guys who could work in a system, and coaching them to work in a system. One of the things that BP is so good at is finding what players are good at and taking advantage of it. It seemed to me like Kentucky never had any role players which are crucial to great teams.

I agree on all points, but I think Syracuse is a bit higher, as is Arizona.
With Hibbert's change of heart Georgetown will be an extremely tough matchup for anyone this year, I expect them to be seeded similarly to last year's tourney.
I would probably omit Duke (but they would be 10b to Georgetown's 10a).
Louisville is absolutely top 5 material and are easily the class of the Big East, and that is no simple task as the conference will be absolutely loaded again this year.
I would probably flip flop UCLA and Memphis, only because of UCLA's loss of Aflalo.
I fully expect the winner of the UT-Memphis game to be the 1 seed in the South.

couldnt have said it better myself, i also expect them to be #1 and 2 in the country when they play

Well, I won't go as far as to say I expect it to be a 1 v 2 matchup, but it isn't impossible. The fact that there is any chance of this team being involved in such a game is exciting though.

the ohio state game should be very exciting as well. Hopefully we will be able to get a lot of quality wins this year like last year. It really helped us out.

I wasn't going to have them that high, but MSU is my big 10 favorite...

that is true, his style of offense was boring as hell anyway. i could see why UK fans were glad to see him go.

I thought it was a bit odd (or interesting), hat, that your fabulously talented #2 finished with the foreboding prophecy about the loss of Brendan Wright. Are they a reluctant #2 for you?

I simply think people are underestimating the dropoff from Wright to Thompson or whoever else replaces those minutes.

Do you think Tyler Smith's presence would only affect Tennessee's ranking by 1 place? I feel like he'll have a huge impact if he's eligible. Maybe you're right - maybe we're that good even without him.

Brandan Wright is amazing. I think Thompson or Stephenson won't be as talented but will bring more muscle and toughness to that position. They would be much better with BW in there, of course, but they'll also have a more seasoned Ty Lawson, Wayne Ellington, Danny Green, Bobby Frasor, and Marcus Ginyard, and of course, Psycho T. I think they're the team to beat next year.

Even with Tyler Smith, Tennessee isn't as good as UCLA, UNC, or Memphis.

Talent-wise, sure, I think UCLA & UNC have the upper-hand (for now :shades:). I think our team chemistry next year will be one of the best in the country and with that in regards, if the team is clicking, beware of our squad. Even the best of teams could be looking at a one-sided game if UT is playing in control.

I expect for a fun-filled season. This is the best UT basketball team I've ever seen.

I think that if they returned Wright, they would easily be the favorite to win it all, and I would be shocked if they didn't. Without him, they go from head, shoulders and torso above the rest, to merely on par.

I agree and think that without him, we're 10 or so. With him, we're 5 or so.

It's going to be the most athletic team in Tennessee history.
