The second richest college football program should not be a hard sell. A team made up of highly recruited classes should not be a hard sell. A 100,000+ stadium that sells out constantly and is getting a 360 million renovation isn't a hard sell. If expectations scare you, then you're not the coach this program needs. The constant whining that the fans are unwilling to accept mediocrity after a decade of systemic failures is the most pathetic thing that occurs on this board. We haven't won an SEC championship since men's tennis. What exactly do you believe the UTAD has done well?

It appears to be a very hard sell. Just ask Mr. Gundy et al.

Remember. The replacing of Fulmer, then Kiffen. Who turned us down?

Tennessee Football Coaching Job May Simply Be That Unattractive.

I posted this on 9/2/2017. Replies were to the essence that the program was in much better shape now than at that time. Lets review. 0-8 in the conference 4-8 overall.
We have been turned down by at least 4 coaches and will more than likely be turned down by more.

I'm going back to my original statement and say. "Tennessee Football Coaching Job May Simply Be That Unattractive" And the reason? The fan base. What coach in their right mind would want to coach with a bunch of lunatics grading and posting on chat boards things as minor as "healthy lunch" was not chosen by coach (unnamed) today.

Gundy turned down 42 mil. Who would do that. That's Saban money, Ill tell you. Coaches that read this board.

Now before you tell me I know nothing about Tennessee football. I'm 70 years old, attended my first game 62 years ago. Was probably a Tennessee fan before that...I just didn't realize it. My father held season tickets 12 years prior to me attending my first game, and those tickets have been in the family ever since. So, Ive seen a few games and a few coaches.

So now we are going to get a Mid Major HC or a Power 5 coordinator as our new head coach, and that fellow fans is on the fan base.

So..... It's the fans fault and not the Haslams. Gotcha 🤳

No we don't. Stop doing that and the coach will still be paid by the school. Take the average cost of a football ticket and multiply by the capacity of Neyland, you think it comes close to running the football program? Oh and don't forget to subtract the student ticket price.

so ur telling me, that if we quit going to games and the stadium looks like it did at the end of the candy game, we will be able to afford a decent coach?

Minority? Are you kidding me? Minority? Just look at the Gruden threads. Minority? OMG

You know not all those posts come from diffrent people, and not all of them are pro Gruden . Heck a lot of them were running down the idea or are completely tounge and cheek. Also the entire Tennessee fan base is not on Volnation. Besides no coach is going to make everyone happy at any school. Are you seriously suggesting the Gruden thread makes us undesirable?

I think a lot of what you're seeing is coaching now wanting to get hired by a lame duck AD in Currie. That's just my take on it. He wasn't well liked at KSU and it looks like it's carried over to here. How he still is employed blows me away.

The problem is Haslam...we need to get him out of the program, he's a cancer. Did you hear he called legislators to complain about Shiano?

I have been a Vols fan my entire life and supporter longer than you. I have been going to the games for over 65 years. My first game was when I was 6 years. Do the math and you will know my age, but who cares. I never want to hear Jon Gruden and UT used in the same sentence. No one really gives a s**t what Jon Gruden does with his life as long as he stays away from TN. There is no doubt John Currier and Davenport should be fired after all of this. He should have used a search firm and if he did we would not be where we are today. Some of the names I hear being thrown out there is a disgrace. Whatever happens to the statement UT would make a splash hire? We have made some inquiries and believe me none were very splashing. Could we have won any championship with any of the coaches that turned us down? Probably, NOT. The SEC is a different animal conference to compete in. In order to be successful, we must seek and hire a winning coach no matter the cost. If not, we will never be respectable again. Dave Shaw from Stanford is close to 4.1 million per year. He would be a splash hire. Would he talk to us and has anyone tried. Mike Leach is a home run hire. Has anyone from TN talked to him and made any offers. Les Miles would be a homerun hire too. Until we ask we will never know. I know a lot of people does not like Lane Kiffin, but the young man knows how to coach and Win. He could stand toe to toe with Saban and Saban, Mullen, and Smart do not want to meet him on the field. They won't just come out and say it, but they do not. Mr. John Currier and Bev Davenport what about any, or all of these candidates? Have you tried to contact any of these? The answer is probably no. You rather mess around in the weeds than be in the bushes. It's time for John Currier and Bev Davenport to put up or shut up. Either way, your legacies will be remembered for a long time. Don't forget whichever way this turns out get your resumes updated because you both should be unemployed.

Currie made it unattractive when he went after Schiano. Then the fans and mid level boosters revolted which put his job in jeopardy and let the media paint the fan base as rabid dogs unhappy with anyone not named Gruden.

So... a spineless AD on thin ice, a meddling primary booster, and the perception of a fickle fan base.

That’s what made it unattractive.
