Has there ever been a coach that became GREAT after being terrible his first 3 years?

Lack of talent can be improved to some degree. But how to evaluate your QB position, firing a respected DL coach after 3 1/2 games, meddling with every position group, and managing PR of the job won’t improve with more time.

One problem with hiring Saban assistants. They have zero interaction with the press. Granted, Jones was a snake. But was Pruitt ready for this?

Johnny Majors was not a GREAT coach.

But he hired great coaches. Makes all the difference.

Walt Harris and Joe Avezzono had modest success as head coaches. Fulmer, Cutcliffe and Zook had more success. And then longtime assistants Kippy Brown, Dick Bumpass, and Doug Matthews were solid.

Good coaches can fail early but their teams get better. Where is the progress here?
