Has Tennessee lost their speed?

It doesnt take a genius to realize that we are extremely slow on the defensive side of the ball.

I don't think we have lost our speed at all...in fact, that is the one thing that our coaching staff cannot screw up

I'd have to say he was talking about receivers. He can't be talking about our secondary.

Florida's d-line coach also said that Ole Miss' speed on the outside was "definitely better" than Tennessee's.

So we're now falling behind Ole Miss... we're closer to rock bottom than I thought.

Our D-line is slow except for Ben Martin and Chris Walker, but they dont get alot of PT..
our LB's are fast with mccoy and Mckenzie...

but with the loss of mayo we did loose alot of speed

Speaking of speed...During james punt return for a TD did anyone see the UT player chasing him?Look like to me he was in the same stride and james was not pulling away from him.I couldn't tell who it was I believe it was #6.Could have been camera angle but he was fast whoever it was.

that # 6 is Denarius Moore
he's one of the fastest on the team
he went to High school with Creer, and he had the fastest 100 meter in the state i'm pretty sure
people think Creer is fast, but Moore is Quicker and Faster than Creer

Him and Jones will be our starting WR's next year..
Moore has passed Rogers on the Depth chart. :)
FINALLY !! lol

Denarius Moore finished the '07 HS track season tied for the 25th best 110m hurdles in the nation. (13.69)

As for the rest of it I don't see how we are too far behind on speed. I'd put our secondary in a 4 man relay against anybody else's and even if we didn't win we sure wouldn't get dusted. Our LB's, especially on the outside, are hardly slow. Sure, we don't have a Leondard Little at end but our guys aren't plodders. On the O side granted Foster's no homerun hitter but you'll rarely if ever see Hardesty or Creer run down. Warren is certainly one of the most athletic TE's in the country. Our WR's aren't blazers in the true sense (though Moore could be close) but Taylor and even moreso Jones aren't exactly plodders. I'm really disappointed that Paige is struggling so much with the mental aspects of the game (LWS has insight here) since he has nice wheels.

Forget the speed argument and get me a QB that can make a read progression and deliver the ball.

So you're going to listen to what meyer says about his rivals? Sorry, but that's like saying that spurrier was a great analyst of the conditions at UT and FSU & UGA as the gators head coach

the team speed has slipped a lil bit. i do not think mccoy is as fast as everybody thinks and wilson and myers-white are not chasing people down from behind. i think our ends is where the biggest disparity is from when we were a pernennial powerhouse. i have not seen any speed off the edge since parys harrelson. overall our receivers and back will be faster next year along with the dline im not so sure about our linebackers coming back next year.

We need to get martin to dominate..
he's our Jevon kearse !
da Freak of our D-line..
walker is real athletic too

but this is probably the slowest DT's i've ever seen
I remember when we had Mahelona and all them, and how quick they were..
they were quicker than most DE's..
now our DT's seem as slow as the opposing O-line.. fareals

i dont know about the dt's> dan williams looks like a future nfl player and has a great motor. maybe not fast but very quick and gets a good push. bolden is adequate at least.

Don't know how many others noticed this or not, but at the FL game Saturday my husband and I were committing on how "conditioned" the FL players looked. Some of the ones we saw looked like NFL players. They looked "ripped" as my husband put it. Maybe some of ours do too, but haven't seen any that looked like they did. It also seemed like they were pumped up from before the game even started until the end.

Rico was Rivals #4 outside linebacker in '05 so nobody considered the guy slow then. AMW and Wilson are both converted DB's so even though they may have lost a step while bulking up I seriously doubt speed is a huge issue there.

the speed at lb is not anywhere close to burnett, simon, thompson, mayo, wilson, . i havent seen it, havent seen mccoy cover alot of ground and make a play. havent seen amw or wilson chase people down. mckenzie has a burst but probably slowest db last year. not that our lbs arent playing good. but theyre not making plays behind the line of scrimmage, not gettin off blocks, not attacking, they make the play when it gets to them. as opposed to getting to the ball.

I think we are lightyears slower than we use to be.
I agree, you can really tell a difference in the recievers & the defense if you watch highlights of the 98/99 teams. Clausen could be a starting reciever on this team...

there just not the Beastly type of LB's that UT usually has..
Wilson is doing his part.. but I thought McCoy would be Dominating teams with his athleticism.. he has plenty of it..
and AMW and McKenzie aren't playing bad at all, but there just playing ok..
and were used to having LB's that are as good as any in the nation
