Has anyone used Uber or Lyft?

I've used Uber a few times, mostly when bar hopping with friends when no one wants to be the DD. It is relatively cheaper than a Cab most of the time, the only exception being when there are no Uber cars left and they will charge 2 or 3 times the normal fare amount due to the lack of cars. But the app tells you when that is happening and you could choose to wait until more cars are available.

But usually I use Uber because of its convenience and an Uber car will arrive in less than 10 mins. Where as a Cab usually takes 20-35 mins to arrive most of the time.

During holidays it can be realy high but i was going around NYC with a lot of $5 to $9 fares. One of my uber drivers used to be a cabby and he said he makes so much more now.

A lot cheaper than a cab in Nashville. Can get from downtown to over by the airport for ~$10

I live in Knoxville, but whenever I'm in Nashville, Uber has been always available and cheap. Drivers I've had were generally freindly and the cars were very clean. Definitely recommend it if youre in a bigger city.

Used it once. Had a $30 off coupon so my ride was free. Very easy to use.

Wife and I took a trip to DC in April. Used it the whole time we were there. Significantly cheaper than a cab and faster. They were all still foreign.

One really cool thing about Uber is that drivers discriminate against riders based on their user reputation. Cabbies discriminate based on race and appearance.

It's an innovative market device that solves a social issue while offering customers a cheaper/better service and employees more freedom/autonomy. It's also safer for everyone involved, because there is a trail of electronic activity for every interaction.

It's great for everyone except the bosses/owners in the established cab industry.

Every time I've used uber it's been great. I paid 8 bucks for a ride when I was in Santa Monica for a cab that would have cost closer to 40 bucks and it was in a brand new Mercedes.

just got back from Chicago - love Uber. Cheap, reliable, clean cars and no "taking the long way", no cash exchange and no tipping.

I will be interested to see data on drunk driving accidents in a decade. Uber is so cheap it makes responsible drinking a lot more attractive. Me and my friends never got cabs. We just always had a DD who had had only 2 drinks (or so, depending on how long we'd been out). Now we replace that DD with a completely sober, professional driver.

It should be coming to Huntsville soon and I'm pretty excited about it. Most of the bigger cities in Alabama, including Birmingham, Huntsville, and Montgomery have had such tight regulations on it that Uber has yet to come here. Huntsville recently made a new proposal and it should be voted on at the next city council meeting (fingers crossed)

Yep - Birmingham quashed it.

Saw on news tonight 5 fatalities for TN for 4th of July weekend. Supposedly a record low if it holds. I wondered if there was an Uber impact there. Also, thought it was funny they credited DOT for great marketing campaigns. When the more legitimate cause may have been a great capitalisitc venture.
