Tony Grossi of the Cleveland Plain Dealer predicts that rookie Montario Hardesty will be the Browns' Week 1 starting tailback.
"I don't see him getting beat out by Jerome Harrison or anyone else," writes Grossi, adding that he envisions Hardesty as the Browns' rookie with the best shot to start on Opening Day, ahead of even No. 7 overall pick Joe Haden.

Arian Foster, however, owns the spot atop the Texans running back depth chart -- at least for now.

"Arian gives us the size, and he made good decisions at the end of last year," Texans running backs coach Chick Harris told AOL's Dan Graziano. "I think we're in a good spot with Arian starting it off, but I also think Steve Slaton will contribute for us in a lot of ways. As far as youth and talent, I think this is the best group we've had, if we can just keep them healthy."

Good to hear. This means both are taking advantage of their perspective opportunities and that they are still hungry.

I couldn't be rooting for two players any harder than I am rooting for those guys.

Crazy we had 2 starting NFL backs, a NFL drafted QB, and a future top TE pick on that 08 offense and couldn't do jack sh*t with them.

That's what Fulmer got fired for! You're a former o-lineman who helps coach the o-line and you can't recruit offensive lineman if your job depended on it! I love him as a coach and person, but that is the reason! Could anybody envision Saban not being able to recruit defensive backs?!!!

Stocker's hands got 100x better between the 08 and 09 season.

In 08 he dropped nearly as many passes as he caught.

I'm glad I wasn't the only one thinking this. He got the Major Wingate treatment from me. Every time he went on the field, I hoped he didn't need to touch the ball. When it went near him, I'd cringe.

He handicapped the 08 offense. The TE was not a viable target ever.

Clawson used him all the time in practice and he was a stud. For whatever reason he couldn't catch a cold during games.

Props to Stocker for getting better.

True that. He became very reliable.
In 08, though...Terrifying

And I like how we have 2 likely NFL starting running backs yet had two of our worst rushing offenses during their tenures here.

But for every big catch he had two drops.

He scared the hell out of me in 08.

I wish they kept the stats. I really don't think he had all that many. He had one really bad game where he dropped several (against NIU or someone worthless), but I think outside of that he was pretty good. I think he got us in a position to score twice in the UF game.

I looked back through the play-by-play recaps on ESPN for that year (sometime last summer). He either led or was 2nd in drops. I'm pretty sure he led, though.

Interesting how this thread keeps pointing out - OL OL OL OL OL

We had great backs but couldn't run.

Our QB's failed when they couldn't get the ball out fast enough

The only successful offense we've had in the last several years was predicated on a short passing game & quick throws.

I'll admit I picked up on it last year, but I hadn't put it together that we had been that bad on OL for so long. Has that group been driving our offensive game plan for the past four years or am I just crazy?

You're right about the worthless opponent. I believe it was NIU.

It just seemed to me that everytime he got an opportunity to make a big play, the ball hit the turf. Those just stick out and the fact that in 09 he caught everything near him.

I'm glad foster might start for the Texans, that way the titans can get a few turnovers.
