We are a stepping stone program. It's time the fans accept it. We've been awful in bowl games, we don't represent our conference well against other conferences, and we can't beat our rivals. The head coach at UT isn't what it was 10 years ago, 50 years ago, or 70 years ago. It's currently a job that is good, but prospective coaches feel like they can do better.

Dont let the door hit you in the butt if you feel that way. Let this job be open in the summer and we would be flooded with coaches wanting a job.

BS. We've had 3 coaches in 30 years.... It's all perception right now. Bama had 3 coaches in 3 MONTHS a few years ago.... What did Majors step UP to after UT? Fulmer? Where did he move UP to when he left. Stepping stone my hindquarters.....

That's ridiculous bull. You've had what, 3 coaches in the last 20 years? You really going to let Kiffin leaving for USC, when he was clearly a California guy from the word go, make you think that?

I'm a huge fan. I want our team to win every game and I love the Vols. I'm just able to look at the situation and say that our recent history shows that we have lost our luster.

You're correct about current affairs, but your report of the program's demise is much exxagerated.

The same could have been said of Florida and Alabama in recent times. Same with USC, Oklahoma, Texas, Michigan, Penn State and Ohio State. Look at Notre Dame.

No one is immune from cycles.

Keep your head about you.

The truth?

USC is a 'stepping stone' in Kiffin's mind. He just can't admit that until he gets the NFL HFC job he wants or loses the one he has.

We got conned. USC is getting it now. Sh.. happens.

Actually the hard truth is we got screwed really hard by a coach and no one else wants to pick up and move 2-3 weeks before signing day...(since well, they have integrity among other things and dont want to make a mess like this at another school or leave all these kids whom they told they would still be there)

I wouldn't call it a "stepping stone" but I wouldn't call it a Top 10 job either.

Truth is, we don't know who has been seriously considered or offered.

Some of it, yes. I'll grant you that but Tennessee is still a plum job in CFB. If we were looking for a coach in March or even October we'd be deluged with candidates. Because we're 2 weeks and change away from NSD it's going to be hard to find someone who'll do what Kiffin did to us....

A stepping stone means it's a job people want to take, but wouldn't have a huge problem leaving. If we were a top 10 job, people would have been all over it for a year and a half. The only person to be beating down our door since Fulmer was gone is Kiffin.

You could have said the same BS about Alabama three years ago. Look at where they are now.

This just isn't the time of year for a school to be looking for a coach, and our AD is a dope. From what I understand, we could have had Calhoun, but Hamilton wouldn't give him the contract he wanted. We could have had Cut, but again, Hamilton tried to set terms that were unacceptable. Makes me wonder if he didn't do that with Muschamp, too.

If he could pay an idiotic slimebag like Ed Orgeron $650,000 last year to be an assistant, he can pony up whatever it takes for a head coach now.

And Kiffin is a self serving weasel and a jerk; I fail to see how he sets the standard that a school is one thing or another...

Alabama also has 10-30 national championships.

Horsecrap!
This search came out of the blue. That is the ONLY reason that we are scrambling to find a coach in less than a week.
Shutup!

I'm afraid your too upset about this my friend. Yes, IMO the UT HC job is now in the top 15 jobs in America(pardon my agreeing with Kiff) instead of top5. But to say we're a stepping stone is a bit strong. MTSU,UCF,Mich St, so on are stepping stone programs. Don't lose touch with reality bc of the perception that no one wants the job. BC-
