Happy birthday Philip Fulmer

I loved the man for a long time when we were winning and for years after he was shown the door. Majors was the coach when I first started to get infected with all things Orange in my preteen years. The older I get and wiser I get I wish the man no ill will but I hold grudges. He hurt us more than he helped us in the long run. And y’all are welcome for your Fulmer hate post. Didn’t read the whole thread so not sure if I’m the first or not. I’d wager I’m not.
You are. And just bc you have gotten older doesn't mean you have gotten any wiser.

Can't deny the accomplishments.
However, his image hasn't aged well, imo.

Image is a lot like beauty, it is dependent on the eye of the beholder. He paid the price twice for bad hires. One was a good man but a really bad fit as OC, the other was a despicable human. The first one emboldened a bad AD to start us down the path to destruction, the last perpetuated and worsened the problem. The good news is his helping expedite his own last departure put us in a position to hire our current AD.

So far he appears to be a guy that can lead us out of abyss. Not there yet, but the early trends are encouraging to this old farts ORANGE heart. Had CPF toyed around with trying to find a way for him to salvage the situation things could have gone differently. DW might not be the only guy out there, but he could well have been off the table if his Dad's coach of choice CUT, was irritated by a nasty forced out the door exit for a guy he still seems to revere. That could have led to another trail of tears. It was important that school provided a soft landing point for CPF, even if a segment of the fan base did not like it. Fortunately he survived the investigation processes on the bad acts.

Even if he is not the final solution, which I hope he is, he is definitely changing the direction of the line on the success chart. Another Kiffin, Dooley, Jones sequence was out there in the pool of possibilities. Another AD hiring a guy with a lack of character OR ability in the wake of the Pruitt fiasco could have been devastating. Don't think it could have been fatal, but sure could have put us on life support and a protracted rehab. Coach may not make the world forget about Saban, but in a few more years could push OUR nightmare of Pruitt out of our frontal lobes.

Yea he did and he costed us a chance to win the East we should’ve won the East after beating Florida and Georgia. It was inexcusable losing to both Arkansas and South Carolina who were both terrible that year.
I had a bond fire after the So Carolina loss. It was fueled with UT merch including a golf bag. The fire turned things around for many years.
It's been gloomy for a long time hence but we finally got off the coaching carousel. I believe in us again!
