Happiness could change quickly to......

Bob Stoops, Mark Richt, Tom Herman were just coordinators.

So were Charlie Strong, Muschamp, Mark Helfrich. Didn’t work out well. Some work and some don’t. It’s a crapshoot. We need a proven winner at the head coaching level this time.

True, but so many times it's about the right fit. What's the culture like, the chemistry, etc.. I think Muschamp has a better squad at SC than he ever did at FLA. and yeah, we could argue the SEC East is even worse than when he was at FLA so who knows? Charlie Strong performed well at Louisville and for whatever reason flamed out at Texas. Seems to be doing okay at S. FLA. Some guys may not be cut out for a P5 job. Just so many variables. But I get what you're saying. We really don't have the luxury of a crap shoot this time.

First Gruden, now Saban.
at least we've been conditioned to realize we suck this year. You guys really thought you were good, only to realize you are still just a middle of the road team in a historically bad SEC. With a mediocre coach with bad hair to boot.

Bad news.

Gruden grins and says NO thank you.
Kelly (thank God) says NO

Now we are competing with Florida and like it or not we may lose that one if you like Frost or Mullen.
Frost wants the Nebraska job anyway.

Now who is on your list.
Personally, I want NO ONE that is represented by Jimmy Sexton.

Tape those ankles sports fans. We have a new AD and his entire career will be hinged on this hire. And it needs to get done quickly because of stupid early signings in December.
Would not surprise me if we get a Co-ordinator and NOT the supposed Home Run the Fanatics are wanting.

Gonna be fun!  :clapping: :eek:lol:

Ok we are not even pursuing Kelly. Florida is not pursuing Mullen. Strickland was AD at Miss St before he left for Florida and him and Mullen don't get along. Only potential candidate that we share with UF is maybe Scott Frost and I doubt he's on Currie's shortlist but is at the top of Florida's. Neither TN or FLor will be hiring Kelly. I guarantee you we are not going to hire a coordinator or another Mid Major coach. That's what got us in the Dooley and Butch mess. This search will be completely different than anything we have seen. But Gruden isn't going to turn us down. But for argument's sake say he does. TN and Flor will not be picking from the same coaching pool. Frost, Strong or Taggart will be Florida's next Coach. 1 of those 3 I would almost bet anything. And none of them will even be in our top 5. And it can't be done quickly if the guy is a college coach.

Gruden has officially turned us down.

Has there been any actual reporting that Frost covets the Nebraska job above all others? Or is this just people speculating because he played there in college?

UT is back at square one. Currie will have to dive deep into a mid major conference for the next coach.

Just asking here, don't shoot the questioner. I've not been on every page of Grumor threads. Has Gruden officially turned us down in the past...like after Kiffen, or is this a recent turn down to Currie?

Need a Gruden type hire or Tennessee football is dead

A popular TV guy who hasn’t coached in a decade that has turned essentially into a meme for fans in desperate hope of finding an easy answer to a tough problem with unclear ability as a recruiter or college-level coach-type...

...or Tennessee is dead? K.

This is the most likely scenario.

Look at our last two hires, the current state of te program, and where the university places the football program on their priority list.

We'll be taking a gamble on someone slightly better than "diamond in the rough" status.

I’m not so sure. Currie’s demeanor and the fact they’re NOT using a search committee tells me he’s already got the next coach ready and waiting. In fact, I suspect the weekend of the SEC Championship Game would be a perfect time for the announcement. We shall see.
