Hamilton's Job on the Line with New Hire

That would be petty and I haven't seen or read anything to suggest that he would do that. I think he will try to find the best candidate available, though.

It may come down to if Hamilton realizes soon enough that it was a bad hire and deals with it immediately (Jeremy Foley and Ron Zook).

It's hard to argue with that, especially for me, since I do think his timing with CPF was really spot on.

In retrospect, most believe the 2001 SECCG loss to LSU was really the turning point in the program, but I don't think anyone was calling for Fulmer's firing that early.

The next opportunity was after the 2005 season, but that would have been a very early call, imo. I realize a lot wanted it to happen then, but MH bascially gave Fulmer a chance to rebuild the program and CPF failed.

On the timing of the presser before Wyoming, that may well have been the best time as well. It's really hard to say. MH had to do it while he had the political will and that was present. Had he not done it then and the Vols went on to beat Wyoming, and who knows, maybe even Vandy and UK, part of that political will would have been lost.

Finally, the 8-win contract incentive clause and adding a year to CPF's contract were probably misstep, bht they really weren't that major in the grand scheme of things.

All in all, Hamilton has done a fine job (even without counting the Pearl hire which is a feather in his cap). Like everyone else, I mainly just want him to hit a homerun with this hire and don't really want to suffer through a trial and error coach.
