I don't remember the thread but someone had said that in Gruden's contract that there was not a buyout as long as he didn't take another NFL job. Not sure if that is the case or not.

If the BUcs...I mean Glazers find UT liable for Gruden breaking his contract then UT is involved in the legalities to follow.

Hamilton can't find a Pearl for Football. Basketball is 10X's different than football.

IMO if we hire someone after the KY game then it will be Kiffin or Davis. If we wait til Jan. It will be Gruden.

Please no Boise,Utah, or Minnesota.

Got to hit the Homerun! Gruden, Kiffin, Davis.

Your singles and ground outs are your other boys.

Give me a mean SOB who will make these boys play hard.

If you're including coaches that left between their respective teams between the end of the regular season and the bowl game, then you can include Tennessee's very own Cutcliffe to the list.

I found it odd that Cut stayed to coach the Outback Bowl before going to Duke but bailed before the NC game to go to Ole Miss - fortunately, it didn't cost us the game.

If Kiff & Co. How long do you think he will stay at UT when another HFC job is offered to him? He would be on my short list, its the longevity thing that concerns me.

If it is Kiffin, why not announce now? There's no contractual issues and the sooner we can put a staff together the better to save recruiting. The current staff and the team appear to be mailing it in, so why wait out of respect for them?

......

I can almost guarantee people will be highly divided over the hire. My only argument would be to support him regardless.

I spoke with several high level boosters as well. They said you're dumb.

Post of the day, so far.

That's not really necessary...

It was all in good humor. :p

I don't think you're dumb Volbybirth - I wouldn't know. But apparently over half of our posters talk to the high level boosters on a regular basis. How convenient.

I don't know the intelligence level of volbybirth, nor do I need to know. But I think this part of his post in bold is correct and I have to agree with it.

If you don't think so, wait and see the multitude of threads when the new coach is named.

Why is everybody so high on Kiffin? What has he done to impress so many people? Forget about the Raiders job because Davis is crazy, but he recruited well at USC(so did Orgeron). He ran a good offense( he had Reggie Bush, Lendale White, Leinart, D. Jarret, S. Smith). What offensive coordinator has done bad at USC since Carroll has been there. I'm just not sold on Kiffin.

He says that he will have a coach in a couple of weeks. If this is true, then he will be hiring away a coach in-season. There are no TOP coaches that will leave their current team and come to UT.

So this might mean a NFL anouncement like John Gruden and will take over duties once the NFL season ends.

or this might mean an assistant that he has in mind.

But I don't think it will go down this way.

I think it will come down to either Texas Tech, Boise State, and Utah coaches, and which ever teams does the best at the end of the season, and bowl game. Hamilton will go after HARD, and anounce a decission pending on how big that teams BOWL game is.

If we get any of the coaches you mentioned in the latter paragraph, I think I'll just stick to pro football!

I like what Pete Carroll, his other assistant coaches, and former players have to say about him. I also like that he is clearly not a "yes man", cause he stood up to that senile, sorry excuse for an owner Al Davis, while he was trying to sabotage his abilities.

You think Pete Carroll is going to say something bad about Kiffin? I am intrigued by Kiffin, but that is about it. Nobody will have to be a yes man at UT anyway. I'm not saying he would be a bad choice, just saying he really hasn't proven anything yet to show he could recruit and win at UT.
