He says that he will have a coach in a couple of weeks. If this is true, then he will be hiring away a coach in-season. There are no TOP coaches that will leave their current team and come to UT.

So this might mean a NFL anouncement like John Gruden and will take over duties once the NFL season ends.

or this might mean an assistant that he has in mind.

But I don't think it will go down this way.

I think it will come down to either Texas Tech, Boise State, and Utah coaches, and which ever teams does the best at the end of the season, and bowl game. Hamilton will go after HARD, and anounce a decission pending on how big that teams BOWL game is.

no way a current coach is going to leave midseason. if he hires someone before the bowl games it's going to be someone who is currently unemployed or MAYBE a coordinator.

Cowher and Gruden are not on the list. I spoke with a top level booster about this last night -- he said there is no expectation of an NFL hire. He also said MH will most likely want a hire similar to Pearl -- > HC experience, smaller school, high energy, etc.

I can almost guarantee people will be highly divided over the hire. My only argument would be to support him regardless.

I spoke with several high level boosters as well. They said you're dumb.

Dear friends,

This afternoon, Coach Fulmer announced he will step aside at the conclusion of the football season. I want to express my sincere gratitude for everything he has done for the University and our program.

Coach Fulmer has been, and will continue to be, a great representative of the University and the athletic department. He has dedicated a majority of his life to our program and brought home two SEC championships and a national championship. He has secured his place as the second winningest coach in Tennessee history behind General Neyland. I personally appreciate everything he has done for Tennessee and look forward to him continuing to be a part of our family.

I hope that you will come and show your appreciation for Coach Fulmer at the Wyoming and Vanderbilt games as well as the Kentucky game on Nov. 29 when we celebrate “Phillip Fulmer Day” in Neyland Stadium.

We will begin a national coaching search immediately. We have a great University, world-class student-athletes, a tremendous fans base and first-class facilities. As a result, we will attract some of the nation’s best candidates. We will introduce a new coach to you over the next several weeks.

Thank you for your continued support of Tennessee football.

Sincerely,

Mike Hamilton

I just got off the phone with Gary Patterson and he said his family agreed to come to Knoxville.

The letter from Hamilton says "We will introduce a new coach to you over the next several weeks," not two weeks.

And aren't they allowed to talk to current coaches as long as they get permission from the coach's current university?

My sources tell me that bionic Phillip Fulmer will be introduced as the next head coach after spending the month of December on the operating table. This is the email that I, along with other prominent liberal hippies in Middle Tennessee received from Mike Hamilton.

"Gentlemen, we can rebuild him. We have the technology. We have the capability to build the world's first bionic man. Phillip Fulmer will be that man. Better than he was before. Better, stronger, faster, more aggressive, and more apt to go for it on 4th and 1."
